Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

PreS-Gr 2-A class gerbil goes missing and the teacher and her students begin a hilarious search for him. As the kids search high and low, inside and outside, near and far, up and down, Max manages to evade them. Young readers will delight in spotting the sneaky rodent under rugs, peeking out between books on a shelf, hiding in a tree or behind a rock--always just out of sight. Meanwhile, they will be receiving a thorough review of word pairs and antonyms. Fun illustrations add to the enjoyment of this lesson. The final page offers a 32-word vocabulary list.

My 20-month-old daughter loves this book! The story line is not very detailed (teacher notices that Max the hamster is missing, the children in his classroom are trying to find him) - so an older child might find it boring. But my daughter loves looking for Max (you can see where he is in each picture, the children looking for him just don't see him). She gets so excited and yells "Ahi esta!" every time she spots him. I like the "Rookie Espanol" series in general -- I think these books are a great resource for toddlers and young children who are learning to speak and read Spanish.

I bought "Donde Esta Max?" to help me become more fluent in Spanish (en Espanol)but several of the palabras (words) were not in my Spanish to English dictionary. So I asked my Mexican friend what the mystery words meant and he did not have a clue. ¿Donde esta Max? (Rookie Espanol)
