This book is a great resource for any teacher, parent, club leader. The directions are clear and understandable. Many of the products necessary for any project is readily available and many of us use them in the home. The only thing that confused me was the paper pallette. I now know what it is, frankly any containers for small amounts of paint is just as good...

If you are into fabric/textile arts, more than ATC's, this book is for you. The overwhelming majority of these trading "cards" were made with a sewing machine in some way. Most are fabric or textile trading cards, and I expected a much broader definition of 'mixed-media' from the title and description.

The cards are lovely, and I don't mean to fault any of the artist contributors. I just thought that since there are so few books on ATC's out there it seemed odd that this highly anticipated book would be so focused on textile arts.

I thought this book was just OK as far as a resource for ATCs is concerned. There were alot of similar contributions from the same artists and was more of a gallery book than a helpful resource and ideas book. If looking for a book on different ATC ideas, I would not recommend buying this book.

I am a huge devotee of creating and collecting ATCs and was really looking forward to this book. I was more than a little disappointed. The cards included weren't among the most amazing or innovative I've seen, and there were no instructions as to how to create them. You'd be better off cruising around the internet and saving your money for art supplies.

There is also a list of websites for those new to the trading game. The price on Amazon is worth the buy!

I wish I had read the existing reviews more carefully...I wanted this to be a great inspiration for students, but it is a collection of primarily textile based cards and too many of the 1000 cards are slight variations on the same image. There are better books for the money.

I'd like to agree with other reviewers that this book is not described well in the product blurb. The author is an editor of quilting and fabric magazines, so this book is overly focused on fabric and very light on other mixed media. Since generally, the ATC field is geared more towards mixed media than fabric, it's too narrowly focused for a general text and should be identified as covering just a subset of the ATC phenom.

Otherwise, photos are nice, a few how-to's are included, and the cards are pretty dazzling, but this is not a beginner book nor is it even a well rounded one.

Great layout of the book, colours are great.I felt there were too many fabrics used, and may be more paper products would be nice.

When I entered the ATC challenge in Quilting Arts Magazine a couple of years ago, I never imagined my tiny piece of fiber art would end up in a gorgeous book like this. This is a wonderful book for art quilters, scrapbookers, or anyone interested in mixed media- it's pure inspiration on every page. It should be required reading for art teachers; ATCs are great for trying out new techniques and materials, and can be made on even the tightest budget.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fabric/sewn ATC's, August 10, 2008
This review is from: 1,000 Artist Trading Cards: Innovative and Inspired Mixed Media ATCs (1000 Series) (Paperback)
This is enjoyable to look at, extract ideas from, refer back to, and then leave out as an interesting coffee table book.

I looked at this in the bookstore, then checked it out at the library. It's a nice book with great pictures, but I passed up buying it because there were a lot of fabric and sewn ATC's and I'm personally not into that right now/yet. I prefer the painted/collaged/stamped type.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of inspiration and a good way to encourage budding artists, June 10, 2007

Artist trading cards have many advantages. They are relatively small and allow viewers to see artwork in a mini size. As such, they are portable and easily carried, displayed and traded.
My kids were fascinated by the idea (they were already into trading cards of various sorts) and this served as a springboard for their own artistic creations. It did the same for me.

I'd also suggest a look at these related titles:
