Book Description

September 1, 2008

New miniature version!

The ability to wield typography is one of those things that is a clear indication of a talented designer. Being able to craft type well and thoughtfully takes a deep understanding of the inherent complexities and a keen eye for the minute and subtle details. This book contains a collection of 1,000 instances of thoughtful type usage along with credits that note what fonts were used in the design. Like its predecessor, 1,000 Graphic Elements, the photography in this book focuses in on the typography so readers can get an up-close look at the work.

1,000 Type Treatments showcases an array of fonts in a catalog-like format, making it easy for the working designer to practically shop for ideas. The book is organized by style so if a designer has a traditional, elegant, or edgy piece, they can go directly to that section of the book, where they will find a wide collection of fresh ideas in the style they are seeking.

Also included is a directory of font foundries and suppliers, providing busy designers with a quick reference guide to where they can find the fonts that pique their interest.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good but... January 10, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I do think this is a great resource for typographic inspiration, the problem is this is just a remake of the same publish in 2005. I purchased this book with the assumption it was the an updated version of "1000 Type Treatments" but it is just in a different format. The photos are much smaller and less fit on the page than the one I already have. It is rather disappointing and a rather bad marketing job on behalf of Amazon! The problem it is since it was such a cheap by it is not worth selling it back, so now I am stuck with two of the same books with different covers and dimensions.

Be aware and make sure you are not buying something you already have.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice collection of examples December 25, 2005
Format:Paperback
The examples chosen are really nice. The way they place different examples on the pages makes it very pleasant to read. Most of the fonts used and other related information can be found at the back of the book.

It's a bit inconvenient that I have to go to the back of the book to check the information everytime but not on the same page. Different photos (e.g. different pages) of the same project should be marked explicitly.

3.0 out of 5 stars decent reference September 25, 2005
Format:Paperback
the good: nice examples, good reference book

the bad: it doesn't mention fonts used in designs. it also uses the same example several times. pictures are to small and sometimes cropped in a weird way.

Definitely one of the better small-size "1000 books" by Rockport. Filled with inspiration that is not outdated in the design community (it's 2013). Read more

I really enjoy this book, it's small (6 in x 6 in), thick, and filled with great images on type treatments. Arrived exactly on time.

All of these treatments are so inspiring and interesting to flip through when you need to get inspired before a project. Nice cover design as well.

Another great resource for type across a radical mix of client and subject material. It's worth so much more than just another 'financial sacrifice' you may not afford. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Inspiration Source - Small Book
Was expecting this to be same size as original 1000 series books. They have gone to a smaller format, making photos smaller but still great inspiration source.
