I so miss Sleater Kinney and now Corin has branched out. It is different but in a good good way. Much better than Cadallaca...lol

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes me appreciate Corin's talent all the more, February 22, 2011
This review is from: 1,000 Years (Audio CD)
I have been an avid S-K fan for many moons, and I was devastated when they split. I didn't really know what to expect from Corin's solo album: would this music have the same magic as that of the Carrie/Janet/Corin trio?

The songs are very different from S-K's tunes (except for "Doubt"), but just as powerful. I always thought of Corin as a lead singer and lyricist, but this solo effort makes me appreciate her formidable composition skills. I mean, just listen to Dragon and It's Always Summer. Also, Corin's voice is very different (lower range and husky almost), her musical phrasing is very different... reviewers keep using the word "evolved" to describe her new tunes, but that implies they are somewhat better than S-K. I say these solo album songs are different, just as good, and definitely worth taking a listen to.

Final word: I loved it!! Thank you Corin! Please, never stop making music!!

5.0 out of 5 stars out of the Woods, January 5, 2011

After the bludgeoning of the S-K anti-major label, major label debut "Woods", "1,000 Years" comes in like a welcome breath of fresh air. Corin Tucker shows a maturity and confidence to open up her songwriting and vocals to great effect. This is one of my favorite albums of 2010. I hope that she tours as I'd love to see these songs performed live. There's a vast dynamic range in this excellent set of songs, but I think S-K fans will recognize and appreciate Corin's unique talents eventhough there's not nearly as much of her signature full-throated warble on display here. A promising solo debut.

It has been written in other reviews of this album that it will not please Sleater Kinney fans, that it does not constitute a tonic for those wanting more of the rock anthems that comprised albums such as All Hands on the Bad One, One Beat or Woods.

To an extent this is true. Most of the songs consist of slower, more considered piano and acoustic guitar accompanying more mature musings. Having said that there are still a few energetic rock songs which will bring back happy memories of the best of Sleater Kinney, such as "Doubt".

This album represents musical evolution, the inevitable growing up of Corin Tucker. It's not a softening; all her lyrical skill is there, as well as her guitar skills and her killer vocals. She's merely changed her focus to sing about the issues facing someone who's grown up as she has, in the life situation she finds herself in.

This album will not satisfy someone looking for more heavy hard rock but it will satisfy those looking for quality music from a top artist who's merely changing with the times.
