The best trap,
This review is from: D-Con 00027 Ultra Set Covered Snap Mouse Trap (Lawn & Patio)
These traps are the best. I got all different types of traps all over but this is the only one that catches the critters. After using them for years, I found tricks to increase the chance of a catch. First, use them back to back facing different direction against a wall. Mice are near sighted so they run along walls to know where they are going. Second, put the traps where you see droppings. Mice is a creature of habit. They will return to the same routes all the time especially when they know there's food and where there's food, you will see their droppings. Third, make a thin trail of peanut butter leading to the feeding cup from the opening and add a small blob at the opening. Like an appetizer. The mouse will get a taste of the goods and will not be afraid to go into the trap for the feast. I know it sounds crazy but the traps I've laid out with the appetizer always get the mouse even with other traps side by side to it. Good luck.

Never touch a mouse!,

I found these in a supermarket and have been using the four I bought 7 years ago, until they finally broke (hence my order here.) After a couple of nasty experiences with mice caught in glue traps (which are remarkably cruel!), I started looking for a better mousetrap and this is it. Once you set the latch, you know you've caught a mouse by the lever in the air and the tail trailing out the back of the trap. To get rid of the dead mouse, you pop the back, lift the lever up a little to release the snap and shake it out. You don't even have to look when you're doing this. Then you just have to reset them. We had a big problem a few years ago, and these traps were life (and sanity)-savers. We're down to the occasional rodent now (thank the heavens!), but I still couldn't live without these.

I tried so many brands and wasted so much money on the "live" traps to curb my little visitors but after awhile they just procreate too fast and when you live in a suburban area it's a struggle. My biggest issue was getting something that "shielded" me from the gory details (yes, I know there are many activists up in arms) and this is a small, very effective trap. My advice would be to make sure and put a "sticky" bait on (peanut butter) verus cheese because there is a small opening in the back (that is needed to set the spring) where they can actually pull the cheese off and not go in the front of the trap.

I have two things to add that I didn't see in the other reviews.
1. This DID NOT work immediately. For some reason the mouse would just not even look at it. I eventually got it to work when I put some peanut butter on one of the wooden mouse traps. The mouse ate all of the bait on that trap without setting it off, and then he must've been hungry for more. He FINALLY went to get some peanut butter bait from the d-con, and WHAM, dead on site. 2. If the mouse trap snaps, in order to reset it, you must push the pin back in. in the back of the trap where there is a slot, if you look at the very bottom, you will see a metal pin. This pin must be all the way in in order for you to be able to reset the trap. The best way to do it, is to turn the trap over on its side. Or, get some tool to hold it in place. I'll even add a third thing. DON'T ASSUME THAT YOU ONLY HAVE ONE MOUSE!!! I did, and after catching my "one and only mouse" I was awaken during the middle of the night, and now need to purchase a couple more of these things.

After a close encounter with a mouse a week ago, I purchased this trap. Trap arrived. Tonight, at 7:30pm, came face to face with my enemy. Aha, so that's where u like to hide...my kitchen stove! Was messing around with a frying pan I had used for a cheese omelette (how cliche). 7:45pm, intelligently set out trap in suspected area of activity (aka "stove") with a piece of provolone cheese. And i kid u not...at 7:55pm....SNAP!!! After taking deep breaths to overcome the urge to hurl, I crept towards trap cautiously, and spied a gross tail coming out of the trap! YECCCCH!! but also YAAAAAAY! Mouse be gone. Now I have to figure out how to get the trap into the trash without puking. They say to use peanut butter, but I think a mouse is a mouse and a mouse still likes the cheese. Provolone in this case. This is an extremely lengthy review for a dumb ol' mouse trap, i know...but i am just so overjoyed!!!! 5 ginormous stars!

I live up in the hills and mice are always an issue here. I have tried so many different products before I found this one. I have tried the regular traps, the mouse bait, the circle traps, the glue board snap traps. None of these worked. I thought I was going to have to either get an exterminator or try the dreaded glue traps. Exterminators can be pricey and as I was researching the glue traps I heard they can be pretty messy and you can actually hear the mouse dying(gross!). So I read the reviews on this product and decided to give it a try before I had to resort to those other measures.
Okay, so I get this trap and follow the advice of someone's review I read on here. I put peanut butter in the cup and just a small dab right at the opening (it's easier if you use a Q-tip to apply the peanut butter). Within an hour I caught my first mouse! Yeah, it was disgusting because the butt and tail were sticking out of the trap, but I got one! I decided to empty the trap and try again. One hour later, another one! You may think you only have 1 mouse in your house like I did, but OMG there is a whole army of them! I have had this product for a week and have caught 5 mice so far! Ewww. Just some advice: 1. Use peanut butter (it works!). 2. If you are going to reuse the trap, do not try to open the door as the instructions say- for one, your hands get too close to the dead mouse, and for two, it's really hard to open esp when u are totally grossed out like I was. Instead, pull back the lever like you are going to set the trap and give it a few shakes and the mouse falls out. 3. Move the trap around your house and set it against something (like a wall or couch). 4. I found out the mouse stays alive for like 10 seconds and u can hear it struggling to get free (ick!). So if that bothers you set the trap someplace that is still effective, but where u can't hear it! I hope this helps and good luck!

I bought four of these knowing that we probably had multiple mice, and I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible. They were delayed a couple days due to the heavy snow in the northeast last week, but arrived quickly nonetheless. I baited all four with a little peanut butter, and a popcorn kernel on top. Why popcorn? Well, that's the bag the critters kept breaking into (we left it in the cupboard as a sacrificial food to hopefully preserve others). I placed them back to back against the wall where I'd seen mice droppings prior on two different shelves.
The next morning I found THREE dead mice in three of the traps. Big stinkers too. Very obvious, as tails stick out the back! Plus, the lever to set the trap is in the "up" position once the trap is set off. Emptying the traps for re-use is very easy. You just bend the plastic cover up, exposing your friend, and pull the lever down a little to release him to his eternal resting ground. Re-bait, and you're set. One interesting thing is that the bait was eaten out of a couple of the ones that sprung and caught mice. I can't tell if the mice get to the bait and have an opportunity to munch prior to their demise, or if their morbid friends come have a buffet once they're gone. It doesn't seem like there's room for anyone else to sneak up to the table once someone's caught, but frankly, I don't care too much. I thought they were a little pricey at first, but having seen the results, I'm thrilled. FYI, I also have a couple of those circular "no see, no touch" ones, and I have not had any luck catching anything with them, for what it's worth.

They work but...,
By After putting cocoa in the traps, there was a mouse in it this morning. I couldn't bring myself to reuse the trap but I may quickly get over that depending how often they are caught. I paid $4.50 for them at Target so the price here is excellent.

Wiped 'Em Out. Completely.,
This review is from: D-Con 00027 Ultra Set Covered Snap Mouse Trap (Lawn & Patio)
We bought these traps after trying the humane catch and release type.
The previous traps didnt discourage the mice in our house at all. After finding a mouse in my box of cereal one morning, I decided to ramp up our effort a large notch. I got these traps and DCon's Mouse Prufe II. Killed about 4 mice within 4 weeks and that was it. No more mice at all after having had the problem off and on for 4 years. Not sure if the poison made a difference or if it was strictly the covered mouse traps. But we now have zero mice. Way to go DCon. Also these traps are nice because you dont really see the carnage. The traps also look discreet on your floor or shelf. They are not so barbaric as an open trap.

I have been an Amazon prime addict ever since they launched, but this is my first review of a product. That says how much I have been impressed by these.
As some of the reviewers suggested, peanut butter worked wonders as a bait. The mice go bonkers over it. I filled the tiny cup with Smuckers Peanut Butter to the brim (make sure you do not overflow the cup) as it can cause the spring to release early. I placed one in the pantry and one near the washing machine adjacent to the wall (remember they use the walls for navigation). I turned off the lights in my kitchen and tuned a recorded Bill Maher show and right about the time the Monologue finished, I heard the trap sound. Bingo I made a kill in the first 10 mins. Emtyping the trap of the dead mice was very easy, pull the spring and tilt the trap in a trash bag. You dont even need to touch the dead mice with anything. I ran some hot water in the washer room sink over the trap, just so as to get a good feel of cleanliness, before I put the next scoop of peanut butter. I didn't hear the sound but the other trap accounted for one too. I refilled them both and woke up two find two more. Four in all. I hope I got them all. Will lay a couple traps tonight, just in case. Pros: Ease of Use. Mice are dead instantly No Need to touch for releasing the dead mice. Cons: The areas sorrounding the small cup are a little sensitive, a little peanut butter on sorroundings will not let u pull the spring to set the trap. Its not a biggie for me. |
