I have never had so much fun dreaming the possibilities of life. This book encourages one to Dream Big while not forgetting the little things. I wish I had bought several copies to give to friends, now that it's out of print...

If you want a collection of tangible activities and ideas to help enrich your life, this is a take it or leave it book. If you ask me, this book is a combination bucket list/self-help book. Many of the 2,001 "things to do before you die" are not really things to "do" at all, at least not to the average reader who invests in a book like this. For example, the last 5 items in this book are as follows:
- Buy this book. - Count up everything in these pages you've already done. - Have one original thought. - Contribute to world peace. - Live. And those are a good synopsis of what you will find throughout. Generally speaking, this book wasn't quite as activity driven as I wanted it to be. I was looking more for places to visit, landmarks to see, things to witness, things to try; in short, something maybe a little more exotic as a whole. Dane Sherwood almost made this book as if he wanted you to be more conscious of little things you could be doing or may already be doing on a day-to-day basis. I'd say at least 500 items fall under that category. That's not to say it's a bad thing, though; we all need a new perspective now and then. ~ Some things are specific to gender. For example, as a guy I have no interest in starting a Barbie collection or throwing my panties onstage at a concert or being a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. However, I might be intrigued by the idea to grow a beard. **It's really a question of what pertains to you, but that's the point of putting 2,001 ideas out there rather than 101 or 1,001. You need to pick and choose what ideas best suit your life, or what ones are most important for you to accomplish, and that's where this book thrives.** Two things I love about '2,001 Things To Do Before You Die' 1) Every so often, there's a break in the list where the author chooses to implement a clever quote. Some more famous than others, you may recognize a few. I'm an avid fan of great quotes and wrote several down for my personal collection. There are about a hundred included in the book. 2) There's some free space at the end of the book to add some of your own goals. Each item in the book has a box next to it that you can check off when you've accomplished that particular objective. It's perfect for someone who wants to accomplish a certain number {or percentage} of items on the list. The rest I'll leave to your imagination. For $12-$15, you could do a lot worse. This book covers a very wide range of life experiences, and though it may have its glitches and absurdities along the way, the ends justifies the means. Grade: B+

This is exactly what the title shows. It is 2,001 things to do before you die. From things like making brownies and star gazing to bungee jumping, riding the fastest rollercoaster, there is some things you may have done, and many that you want to accomplish.

Some of the things on the to do list are really obsurd, but fun to read and think about anyway.

Very clever book that has many things that you should do before you die. It has some old things that can be accomplished. I understand because it is an old book. If you are planning to buy this book I will definitely recommend this book but please have in your mind that this book is old and may contain lists that you won't know :D

I'm keeping this and marking things off as I go. Some are just strange, but there's enough here to help me set some fun goals for myself.

I thought it would be inspiring, a fun filler throughout the day or at least funny, but I ended up reading through it over the course of a week because I was bored. It wasn't inspiring or even worth a chuckle. It became a chore just to thumb through.
I wouldn't recommend it. |
