4.0 out of 5 stars 3 modes, and a really big gun, December 23, 2004

Energon Shockblast is an awesome toy. He has three modes, something I haven't seen on a mega-sized figure before. His first mode (the one he's packaged in), is a tank-like vehicle. This mode has a really cool shape and the treads fit in nicely.
His other vehicle mode is like a satellite. In this mode his gun is the very front. The front of him splits out to form 'wings'. What maked this mode look different from the others is the solar panels that fold out in a couple places. They add a spacecraft feel to him.
His robot mode comes together surprisingly well. Everything gets tucked away so that there's not a lot of extra junk hanging off. The entire left arm is the gun. His right arm is part claw-hand, part sheild, and part weapon. This is nice, and it's complexity offsets the huge, solid gun on the other side.
All in all, this guy's awesome. The transformation can be difficult the first time, there being three modes. But what I like about this transformer is the way all the modes come together so neatly, and look totally awesome at the same time.
If you like transformers, this is an awesome toy to ad to your collection.

We reviewed this over at ROCuniverse.com and it is a truly fantastic toy! It's durable, and easy to transform and looks great in either mode. A true nod to the old school Shockwave figure.

Shockblast died in the transformers energon cartoon today. He was smashed by unicron!! It turned out that shockblast was a proud warrior. It is going to be sad for people that really liked him. There is good news that Shockblast's spark is still alive. He is going to become six shot. He will have a toy of himself in his repaint form. wait for his new repaint. you will like it or won't like it. Look for him in the upcomming episodes. Trust me, he will return!!!

Shockblast is a nice-looking robot (I don't particularly like the other modes). He is one of those Transformers produced by Hasbro that is created to be in robot mode and the other modes are an afterthought.

I like the powerful weaponry on Shockblast. The cannon looks like it could take down Unicron! The solar panels pop up as you push the switch on the side of the cannon. His other arm has a sweet-looking double cannon on it. Many powerful poses can be made with Shockblast. His feet are large and stable, which allows him to be posed without tipping over due to the large gun.

My only problems with Shockblast are: 1. his slightly fragile back area and 2. the tendency of his upper torso to tip.

1. The fragile back area...it looks like my Shockblast came with two cracks already in place on his tread/backpack area in robot mode. The mechanics of this area are cumbersome and the tread parts don't slide up and down easily. I worry about breaking the whole thing so I avoid moving these parts very much.

2. Shockblast's upper torso doesn't lock into place which makes him 'tippy' in robot mode. I am surprised Hasbro didn't build something into the mold to allow him to clip together in this area. As he is moved, his chest and arms flop around about .5 centimeters due to this lack of locking ability. If anyone knows some secret to this, let me know!!

Overall, I would highly recommend Shockblast to collectors--especially those who remember the menacing, dark Shockwave from G1 with the malevolent voice of David Warner! I am so glad Hasbro is thinking of us '80's Transfomers junkies as they create these new figures!!
