Jenny is trying to get pregnant, her husband Pete is trying to get drunk and his best mate Adam is trying to break the record for one-night stands. David is climbing the career ladder but his wife Karen is climbing the walls, desperate for a nanny. Rachel has just been ditched by her boyfriend but soon finds hope of another love when she collides with Adam at the supermarket.

Jenny is pregnant and stressed by Pete's over-enthusiasm towards child-birth, as she is not looking forward to it. David wants to have another child to solve their present child's temper tantrums but Karen has other ideas. Adam and Rachel are battling over territory and Jenny's labour turns into a comedy with Adam playing a lead role.

Rachel and Adam move in together but he is not very happy to discover that Rachel was married and never got divorced. Pete and Jenny find that they are having relationship problems as their new baby brings upheaval. Meanwhile, David finds that he has big problems: a misjudged investment plan has lost him a lot of money.
