Much to my delight, John Purner has released a new book titled "02 Golf - The Long Cross Country". In contrast with his most recent best-selling books, it is not about sharing with avid readers the secrets he has discovered which can bring average Sunday Golfers closer to the professional level that John has reached in Golf in an incredibly short time. If improving your Golf is important to you, you must read his previous Golf books. But 02 Golf is the story of
Purner's life-long obsession with flying, and, as with all of John Purner's writings, he befriends his readers in a way very few writers can. John sits us down
next to him and takes us along on a journey of exploration which engages the reader immediately and does not let go until 02 Golf has made its last landing and we must reluctantly deplane. John, as a child, grew up awestruck by his Aviator father's exploits piloting a B-24 in WW2 making bombing
runs in support of resupplying our Chinese Allies. That fascination with Aviation remained with John throughout his life, occasionally breaking through
during his student days, but suppressed as many of us have done. It was only after retiring from an enormously successful career in Computers in November of 1989 that he returned to the activity he loved most of all - Flying!
And for most pilots, here is where John's most interesting days begin. He put his enormous talents in both writing and computer technology into the world's first reference book and later, first website, describing where pilots can fly for fun and the "100 Dollar Hamburger" a description that every pilot knows, was born [...] That pilots can fly for recreation and just "plane" fun, although not a new concept, was totally unorganized.

What a nice surprise -- old fashioned aviation grass roots story telling at its best. Fly along with John Purner in his trusty C-150, dropping into unfamiliar airports, encountering odd and interesting new situations, watching the continent slip beneath his wings. This is a journey of discovery, and you'll be glad you went along for the ride. You will feel the joy of flight, the satisfaction of mastering problems, and, in the end, the emotion of saying farewell to a disabled old flying machine.

Best of all, this is the kind of story that will make you smile. Recommended.

Felt like I had been invited along for the adventure. 02 Golf kept me smiling for days after I finished reading, and led up to a long conversation with my wife about what makes us happy - which ultimately led to our decision to buy our first plane. Thanks, John, for reminding us what it is like to live the dream. I highly recommend this excellent and thoroughly enjoyable book to anyone with an interest in flying. Consider this book your "progressive taxi" by someone that has been there and was kind enough to share the adventure with the rest of us.

I enjoyed the read and was quite impressed that a low-hour pilot managed the complex navigation across the US in a small, under powered aircraft, sometimes in difficult weather. As a pilot myself, I like the technical stuff that pilots have to contend with included in flying books. 02 Golf does this well.

I enjoyed this look into a pilots long cross the continent trip and the stops on the way. I recommend this to all general aviation pilots or future pilots who wonder what fun can be had flying freely and safely around our great nation. I hope future pilots will be able to do the same a decade from now without costly regulation that could and would make a trip such as this book speaks of possible. I really enjoyed his oddessy.

I have flown but never owned a Cessna 150. The author does a great job explaining what ownership would be like. A very enjoyable read. It was easy to imagine sitting beside him on his cross-country flights to the west coast.

This one of the first aviation books I read in Amazon's popular Kindle format and though in that incarnation the text could use a quick edit and correction from a proofreader the typing / context errors do not subtract from the substance of Mr Purner' s wonderfully telling of a new pilot's initial attempt to fly a time-constrained cross-country from Houston to San Diego in his beloved training Cessna.
You meet a few wonderful characters you will virtually befriend and experience some situations reminding you of those you similarly experienced and some you are glad you have not - so far, thankfully.
I think this is one of those modern flying trek books with so many simple lessons spread throughout it should be canonical reading for every student and minimally experienced pilot. It is on my list of 'what to read' when a Young Eagle, say, or one of the CAP cadets asks for a book of this type.
Other reviewers provided a more descriptive narrative than my skills allow but suffice it for me to say how enjoyable this book is and how valuable the lessons contained within it.

I think that this was a self published book, a few spelling errors etc, but a good read if you are a pilot and like to read about flying!
