Office Basic Full Version,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 021-07746 - New 02107746 SFT Office Standard 2007 complete package 1 pc CD Win English (Electronics)
Advertised on Amazon as containing: 2007 Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook. Well, it does NOT contain Powerpoint! It came in a generic cardboard sleeve that was only titled "Microsoft Office Basic 2007" -- no further details listed, and no box. You won't even know it's not as advertised until you start to install it and find that not all the advertised components are on the disc! Immediately wrote an email to Amazon about it, but have yet to recieve a response 1 week later, and the false advertising is still in place.

Arrived in perfect/new condition. Four stars as it cannot be installed on an additional system (laptop). Wish I could find another one as this version seems to be gone from Amazon.

Microsoft vs WordPerfect,

I just read Barry Webb's review, Word Sucks, in which he states Microsoft bought out and killed Wordperfect. While I agree with his frustrations over Word's attempts to think for us, he needs to check his facts! WordPerfect is alive and well, owned by Corel for several years, and has a current version which works very well. WordPerfect has retained most of its benefits as compared to Word, and is still my favorite, tho I use both depending on the purpose. Word is still the world leader in sales, and has improved greatly over the years, and is nearly the equal of WordPerfect. If you want real ease of use, I'd choose WordPerfect. If you want compatibility with most of your friends or colleagues, I'd choose Word. If you are going to use Word, I'd spend some time learning it with a good book or on-line tutorials [...]. Learn your program and you'll enjoy it - either way!

Microsoft had a fine product in the old powerpoint. PP 2007 is completely different in operation and far too complex. Icons are in different places or missing completely. Routine tasks are still obscure to me after weeks of fooling with the program.
My advice? Even if you get Office 2007, hold on to your old Powerpoint just in case PP 2007 makes you as nuts as it did me.

What ever happened to the old word processor programs that just allowed you to type? (Like the Old Word Perfect circa 1990) Every time I try to write I find Microsoft Word trying to "think" for me, indenting where I don't want to indent, making capitals where I don't want capitals, etc. I would give anything for just 5 minutes alone in an elevator with the idiot who programed Microsoft Word. There is nothing more irritating than to find that your computer is indenting spaces when you don't want to, making capitals when you want small case, and in some cases erasing entire manuscripts if you happen to hit the wrong key by mistake. Who ever designed this word processing program had to be a very evil person who hates writers. I don't think that anyone could be stupid enough to program a word processing system to "think" for you, so it has to be evil intent. Trouble is, Microsoft has bought out the competition (Word Perfect), and then killed it, so we have no other choice. So, please, just show me where that elevator is.

The product is just pictured. It came on time just as everything from Amazon does.
The cost of the product is outrageous considering it is a necessity. $60 extra handling is ridiculous. It is boxed software. I still don't know if the product is installed or the preinstalled version is running and will quit after the grace period. |
