The Glasgow show is a pretty standard set list from the European leg of the Binaural tour. Highlights include "State of Love and Trust" and "Soon Forget." Ed is quite chatty tonight talking at length about little old ladies and how songs can become prayers, etc. The encore is fairly mellow, balanced between "DTE" and a nice appearance of "Once" and the trio of "Light Years," "Elderly Woman," and "Last Kiss." Good show for a casual fan. Die hard fans may want something a little more diverse.

Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This bootleg from Glasgow has not gotten much attention for the fans or the press. Granted, the band is a little out of sync and the performance is kind of sloppy in places, but you can tell that everyone is having a good time, and this enthusiasm results in one of the more energetic shows in the European series. Mike McCready is the hero tonight, as this was one of the evenings in which he really went nuts and lit up the whole show (sometimes he sounds bored, which can lead to a bland show by the whole band, but not tonight). Maybe Mike was happy tonight because they played some of his biggest showcases - "Dissident," " State of Love and Trust," "Present Tense," and "Brain of J" - all of which are solid and electrifying. Eddie Vedder is also having fun tonight, gabbing with the enthusiastic crowd. Funnier moments are his very long story about a cleaning lady, and his imitation of Waterboys singer Mike Scott. He also introduces "Even Flow" as "In a Big Country" - a bonus for the local Scots. In a rather haunting moment, Eddie has to check on the slamdancers during "Given to Fly" to make sure everyone is okay. The Denmark tragedy (in which nine fans died) was less than a month away. This is followed by a funny moment though, when Eddie forgets the words to the upcoming verse of the song, and admits it. This performance really breaks down into a rash of mistakes toward the end, as "Once," "Soon Forget," and most of "Yellow Ledbetter" are almost complete disasters. However, after Mike finishes up "Ledbetter" with his usual Hendrixian fingerwork, a mysterious voice, which was never heard before or since, thanks the crowd in a corny Scottish accent. Could it be...Mike!

This is a good representative of the 2000 Euro tour.

B- in terms of proficiency. 'Soon Forget' is the only song that's absolutely butchered, but 'Given to Fly' is interrupted so Ed can make sure nobody in the pit is hurt. It's an oddly prophetic moment, given the coming Rosklide tragedy.

B In terms of setlist. I love 'Sometimes' as an opener, and SoLaT, Brain of J, and Once are all welcome semi-rarities. It's a bit short overall, and could probably stand some more Binaural songs- God's Dice or Insignificance would have been good. But not many shows give you four songs from No Code and four from Yield, so it's good there.

A- In terms of emotional connection. Some nights you can't tell if the band cares what the fans think of them or not. Tonight Ed goes from voicing concern over the pit people, to telling random stories about locals, and he just seems to be having a good time. When the band's happy, it makes for a much more engaging listen, and Glasgow delivers on that front.

I am impressed at how well Pearl Jam plays, night after night. This CD is a recording of their performance at Glasgow, Scotland of 3 June 2000. "Sometimes", "Breakerfall", and "Corduroy" are strong openers, featuring interesting interplay between Mrrs McCready and Gossard. The audience is exuberant, singing along with "Small Town" and clapping time with "Yellow LedBetter". No matter how many times I have heard "Last Kiss", Mr Vedder brings it alive with fresh enthusiasm. Some may feel this is an average show for Pearl Jam. Perhaps, even so, it is a show many, many other bands would be proud of. If you are interested in the European Tour of Pearl Jam, this CD will be interesting to you.
