I have to say, this manga is one of my favorite ones. I read in previous reviews that the battle scenes were hard to follow, but I never had that kind of a problem. I had a harder time following battles in O-parts hunter and Naruto than I did in this. I was so excited when reading this manga. It combines a good ammount of humor (mostly centered around bishop frau) to help balance out the drama and action. I recommend this to anyone who asks. I instantly fell in love with it.

Though I agree with some of what was said in the previous review I guess I'm willing to be a little more forgiving of 07 Ghost. Yes, some of the action is hard to follow. A few times I got lost reading the panels for the fights but I've had that problem with other manga. I also wondered if the confusion wasn't due to the fact that this 'world' is new to me and I don't know how everything works there. Obviously the people in 07 Ghost have magical fighting abilities that manifest as some kind of runic looking words. That's the best way I can describe it. So an interesting idea if a little hard to follow. As for Teito, the main character, and his background as a former slave: he doesn't flash back to any horrible slave memories because he was actually sold into the army. From the way they talk about it, I suppose that's not such a bad fate. Not great but not horrible either. So perhaps a little misleading there.
Overall the book was a little confusing but I'm willing to stick with it for one more volume and see if things improve. Most series are confusing when they start. What's perhaps more important is if you're interested in finding out what is happening. Teito is an interesting character, the bishops that take him in are intriguing, but the story was all over the place. First they're in a military school, then he's in a church village. First Teito is teacher's pet (figuratively speaking) then he's a runaway and everyone is after him. I wasn't completely clear on why he was in such big trouble so suddenly. It's a lot to take in especially with the rather meager explanations so far. Maybe the writers just tried to take the story too far too fast. Maybe it needed a little bit more introduction. Either way, I am interested enough to stick around for volume 2.
Oh and as for Teito still being in chains for the latter half of the book, I just assumed that the bishops had not had the tools or else the chance to remove them. Especially since Teito seems to get into trouble whenever they leave him alone for a few minutes. Then again maybe I'm over thinking it. Maybe they just thought it would be cool for him to walk around in chains for half the book. I guess I'll find out one way or the other.

I love this manga. I admit, it was a little hard to get into at first because I'm not a big fan of "military" stories and only started reading it because it was so highly reviewed elsewhere online. This story is a perfect mix of clever plot, fast action and moments of sensitivity. I can't wait for more volumes to come out in english!
