A good effort,

I just received my copy and was somewhat disappointed; while the author made a good effort at compiling lists of recipients, a diproportionate number of them are for Midway and the Philippines, which I believe were included maninly to flesh out the book. The book is fairly comprehensive although I noted that the 11 Air Corps personnel who received Purple Hearts for merit (not wounds) were not included. Also, all those who received PH's for wounds, are not listed. I acknowledge, though, that it was a diffucult job to find all citations for the attack on Pearl Harbor. Also, the Bronze Star Medal was described as being awarded for actions also involving aerial flight, which is wrong, but I'm quibbling. This is a helpful reference for serious students and collectors of US military awards.

Medals Issued for Pearl Harbor,

This book was written by one of the Medal of Honor awardees who survived the Pearl Harbor attack. It is a listing of not only the names, but also reprints the official citations of some 500 military personnel who were awarded one of the 11 different medals issued for their heroic actions on Dec. 7, 1941. These citations recount not only the brave acts of the all-but-forgotten heros of this surprise battle, but also those who were awarded medals for defending Wake & Midway islands, too.

I got this book when it first came out. I knew the authors. Mr Ross was at Pearl Harbor. He was on the USS Nevada. The book is a great account of what those brave soles went through during that time!
