Suitable for weight-lifters...but pretty and compact,

While my initial impressions of this decanter were positive, now that I've tried more types I think this one scores lower (for me, at least) than many. Pluses: lead free (it's amazing that so many decanters still use leaded glass, putting the visuals ahead of good sense), it takes up relatively little shelf space for a full bottle decanter (smaller diameter than most of the "genie" designs), it looks nice, it's cheap...sounds OK, right? That's what I thought. It's very heavy (3 pounds more than another I have). If it were for exercise, that'd be fine, but trying to use it to pour gracefully in a crowded party setting I found the heft of it to be a real minus. Keeping your hand steady when pouring at reasonable arm's length with this thing filled, over a crowded table, during a good long evening with friends, got annoying pretty fast. I also ordered one from Riedel(lead: no good), and several of the WMF easy pours. I just got a WMF easy pour mini decanter (we're lightweights and never consume more than half a bottle between us) that seems promising, at least for our limited needs. In summary, I'd skip this unless you have the wrists of a tennis player; it's just more trouble than it's worth in comparison to competing products. But if you want heavy glass (it might be somewhat less fragile), small footprint on the shelf, lead free, and inexpensive; then this might be the one for you. Otherwise, go for the WMF Easy Pour.
