4.0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a knitting pattern book!
There are about 10 patterns. This book is mostly for inspiration--1000 ideas! You can probably figure out some of the hats on your own, if you are an experienced knitter. This might be a time to start designing your own hats!

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit misleading
I had purchased a previous book by this author that promised 'dozens of patterns' and didn't deliver, so I made sure to scrutinize this book. I think it is a little misleading, as while there are 1000 hats, there aren't patterns for 990 of them. Great eye candy, but eye candy can be had in many different places.

1.0 out of 5 stars MISLEADING, March 30, 2011

I agree with many others: Title is very misleading. I don't want to look at 1000 hats...but I would like to look at the PATTERNS to 1000 hats.

But that even isn't the worse of it!

Imagine my surprise when I saw my Sponge Bob Hat on page 71 as I flipped through the pages of this book!!

Yes! I kid you not! I knit a cute Sponge Bob Hat, I did NOT make up the pattern to this hat but I found the pattern on a great web site and knit the hat and took a picture of it to put it on my "Projects Page" on this web site.

Somebody swiped my picture and sent it off to the publisher and they published it!
You'd think I'd get some kind of compensation or at least they'd let me know my hat and picture was published in their book!

Very weird.

2.0 out of 5 stars Caveat: 1000 hats, 10 patterns, August 27, 2010

This is is a nice collection, but that's all it is: a collection. OK, save for the 10 actual patterns in there. When I want to make a beret and am looking for a pattern, I use the search feature on Ravelry. Sorry!

Very disappointed in this book. 10 patterns in the book that the author liked! Make sure you realize that the title is very misleading. I would not puchase this for a shop.

1.0 out of 5 stars SOOOO Misleading!, March 19, 2011
This review is from: 1,000 Fabulous Knit Hats (Paperback)
There are indeed a number of gorgeous hats to LOOK AT in this book. There are only 10 of them TO KNIT. Why? The author picked her favorite 10 from the 1000 she shows and gives the patterns for those. As it happens, I hated all the ones she picked. Regardless of whether you agree with the author's taste or not, it is almost deceitful not to say that you are only giving patterns for 1% of the hats whose pictures you show in the book. I was going to buy this from amazon. Luckily I stumbled upon it in a physical bookstore. Was that lucky or what! Saved myself and amazon the trouble of me buying it and having to return it (as I certainly would have done after I'd seen what was (or wasn't!)inside).

1.0 out of 5 stars misleading and dissapointing, September 4, 2011
This review is from: 1,000 Fabulous Knit Hats (Paperback)
I'm so glad I got this book for less than half of what the price is. I was so disappointed that this was just a picture book for hats, and a lousy 10 patterns. Really it wasn't worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading title, November 23, 2011
This review is from: 1,000 Fabulous Knit Hats (Paperback)
This book is unethical as it gets. Misleading title that screams 1000 Fabulous Knit Hats Includes 10 "Award-Wining" Patterns but in actual fact, it contains ONLY 10 patterns that the author chose to bestow "awards" upon HERSELF. This is not my personal definition of award winning. Award winning to me means that the patterns are wildly popular and have been given awards by professional and recognised knitting bodies.

This book is more of a cofee table book that includes knitted and CROCHETTED hats. I viewed this book online so I didn't get a chance to thumb through it first or I would have discovered this ruse. As for those who say that I should not have expected 1000 in a few hundred pages, well I was fully aware and expectant of the possibility that the patterns could have included instructions for adaptations to achieve alternate styles. 1 pattern with varying embellishments or little changes could extend to 8 different hats. Ergo, the assumption that there could be 1000 patterns in one book of a few hundred pages is a fair one.

Seriously, I think the author and the publishers should be ashamed of themselves. With a title like this, I expected 1000 patterns of hats, 10 of which are award wining. What I got was 990 pictures without patterns and 10 un-attractive patterns deceptively labelled as award wining. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth and a bad impression of the author.

I gave this book 1 star because, apart from the mis-leading title, I also did not like any of the 10 patterns offered. They were just plain ugly. Of the hats I did like, it's frustrating to not have a pattern, especially when I had anticipated a pattern in the first place. I really did not like this book. It has been donated to my local library.

I thought this was a knitting book with patterns....it had 10 patterns but was mostly a book of photos of hats. Although they were beautiful hats I wanted the patterns,,,,beware if you think this is a knitting book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute coffee table book, but...., January 12, 2011

Not what I had expected. So many choices I want to try. Look out, so few patterns (10) to make, and not the ones I want to make. I'm very glad I did not pay the full price for the book.

My plan was to give this book to lady that just started knitting again, she taught my mom how to knit before I was born. This will have to be a "coffee table" book or will just sit on the shelf.

I think it's a wonderful show case book for those that have their hats in the book, but trying to track down Lady Willow's patterns requires more time than I have.

So, get the book is you are already a very good knitter. You have a better chance of making one of the hats that is in the book without the pattern included in this book.

If anyone has an idea how to get the patterns of the hats in this book, I would like to know that path.

I envy the creativity of the knitters showcased in this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars hats inspiring, few patterns, January 6, 2011
This review is from: 1,000 Fabulous Knit Hats (Paperback)
I was an idiot and didn't puruse the book enough before buying it. There are some really cool pictures of hats that are very inspiring. There are 10 patterns.

The book is divided into various classifications. It would have been nice to have instructions for a simple version of each type (bucket, beret, pointed, etc). Alas, it was not to be. Guess I'll take comfort that between the included patterns of the award winning hats and the photographs, I may be able to fake my way into making something wearable and not too embarassing to be seen in.

If you've made lots of hats, it could be a great book for you. If you're a beginner, find another book.
