Book Description

February 1, 2008
An anthology of more than 50 stories about the other side of treating diabetes what health care providers can learn from patients. With more than 1,000 combined years of working with patients, the contributors share their knowledge and the life-altering experiences that both challenge and chage the way health care professionals provide care to their patients. This inspirational work proves that knowledge can be learned from books, but wisdom can only be gained through years of experience.

1.0 out of 5 stars fluff, February 23, 2008
This review is from: 1,000 Years of Diabetes Wisdom (Paperback)
This is a book of fluffy stories. This is the least helpful or substantative book of any I have read on diabetes. A waste of money for someone with diabetes who is looking for information

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for providers, May 10, 2011
By
Pamela Stamm (CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO, US) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 1,000 Years of Diabetes Wisdom (Paperback)
This book is full of stories from health care professionals and insights they learned from interactions with their patients. This is not a book written for those with diabetes but those who provide care to those with diabetes. Each story is insightful and reminds providers that their patients need to be treated as people and need to experience individualized care. Although all of the stories include persons with diabetes, the lessons learned can be applied to many other persons with chronic illness. I have my students read this book as they learn how to work with patients because it really deals with the art of medicine.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 1,000 Years of Diabetes Wisdom (Paperback)
I purchased this book expecting to read facts and information about the disease - instead, it was doctors writing about situations they experienced with their patients - I had to return it - it was not at all what I wanted. I didn't find it loaded with wisdom.
