Even though the picture shows a battery, there was no battery included with car.

That's my only complaint with this product.
The car works great; great control, excellent range.
Very tough; I've flipped it several time learning to control it,
yet the car comes through with no problems whatsoever.

I'd recommend this product to anyone; just don't be fooled by the picture.
It's >NOT< "ready to run" - you still have to buy a battery pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blast from the past and classic style for smiles, February 13, 2010

I had an original Hornet when I was around 14 and it gave me hours of fun, and I was very excited to have the chance as an adult to get another, opening the box it was everything I remembered and more, This time the car is very nicely built and the paint and decals are first class, (Tamiya also sells this as a kit for the full retro feel) I ran the Hornet all afternoon and for many outings afterward. My driving style shows responsibly and not doing anything obviously foolish (but not pampering it either). The little guy wears very well and nothing has broken to date. It is very enjoyable to drive, super fast and great fun on the gravel throwing rocks and doing donuts, a true smile machine. There is something about these machines that no newer buggy can match, they have style and character and are iconic symbols of the RC hobby. This is hard to explain but anyone who remembers there childhood knows what I mean. The Hornet is very very durable if treated right by responsible owners using common sense in there driving, sure it won't survive merciless thrashing but it won't break in normal use either and they provide years of service, if anything does break spare parts are readily available from sources like Tamiyausa. So if you are looking for a buggy with style and capable of making smiles get a hornet. This is especially true if you had one before or if you have a kid that you want to bring into the RC hobby. If you have such a narrow focus that only highly subjective factors like maximum speed or handling are of concern then yes there are more "modern" choices in buggies that are built specifically for that purpose, but those buyers don't typically stay in the hobby very long since they really miss the point of how this hobby has something for everyone from new designs to the retro machines that had to exist in order for those new cars to be a choice today, Understanding how far the hobby has come is key to understanding it and by driving a Hornet you get to see what the made this hobby grow so fast in the 1980s. Tamiya builds machines that can start a person down the road of life building things and creative thinking. A rare type of toy which is strong enough to bring customers back 20+ years later to relive the positive experience of their childhood and fun with there cherished toy. I am now 34 years old and the stress relieving value of a simple little buggy I enjoyed so much as youngster should not be overlooked for other children and children at heart.

1.0 out of 5 stars Old Technology!!, August 21, 2009
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 1/10 The Hornet RTR (Toy)
The Tamiya Hornet is good for a nostalgia piece, and that's about it.

This buggy is a very old design that has been re-released by Tamiya (along with the Frog, Vanessa's Luchbox, and a bunch of others). If you've been in this hobby long enough to remember the original and want to own a copy, then by all means, buy it. If you're new to this and want a durable, good handing vehicle, spend your money elsewhere.

This buggy is very outdated and uses friction front shock absorbers that are basically worthless, plastic bushings in the transmission and wheels (seriously, Tamiya? WTF?) a weak hard plastic chassis, and a cheap, slow RS-540 motor. For the money, I'd recommend a modern buggy such as either the Traxxas Bandit or the Duratrax Evader BX (which is actually cheaper and much, much better). You'll have a far more capable and upgradable buggy that you can actually find parts for.

Note to Tamiya -- Take a look around.
