5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional, Beautiful, Sensitive
This album is truly lovely, when you listen to this man sing you will be capitivated by the way he can display his feelings with so much emotion. In the song titled 'How Can We Hang On To A Dream' you can feel his pain when he sings this line 'All the pain, always rain around my eyes, it hits you deep', if you have everbeen in that situation, then you know how much it is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Get Hang On To A Dream: The Verve Recordings Instead
It has more music and it is now much, much cheaper. (Which is to say that it has this CD plus a whole disc of extras.) You like more for cheaper, don't you?

This album is truly lovely, when you listen to this man sing you will be capitivated by the way he can display his feelings with so much emotion. In the song titled 'How Can We Hang On To A Dream' you can feel his pain when he sings this line 'All the pain, always rain around my eyes, it hits you deep', if you have everbeen in that situation, then you know how much it is hurting him, also the line 'How can it really be the way it seems?', the lyrics are so sad and yet so delicate and beautifully sung that I find myself drifting into a state of semi-consciousness as I am captivated by his magical voice. All the songs on this album are beautiful but the highlights are 'If I were a Carpenter'(just listen to those beautiful lyrics as he sings the lines 'If I worked my hands in wood, Would you still love me? Answer me babe, "Yes I would, I'll put you above me." and "You Upset the Grace of Living When You Lie", this song is so full of emotion, "Red Balloon" soft gentle lyrics but sung so with so much manliness, "Tribute to Hank Williams" this is a tribute that you just know is from his heart, you can feel the way he loves and admires the great Hank Williams, I know how he feels because I feel that way too about him, also loved the way Hank could express his feeling in his songs, "Baby Close Its Eyes", if I was going to have a baby this would be the song I would like to share with the man I love, "Misty Roses", simply beautiful, this song was also done by Colin Blunstone, and his version was beautiful too, I could highlight more but would you want me too. To conclude I would like to say this, that if you want to experience his magic then this is the album you should buy.

If you like Nick Drake, Dave Van Ronk, vibraphones, late-night music, or soulful, melancholy voices, then you need to check out Tim Hardin. And this is THE Tim Hardin set to own, combining his first two albums onto one disc. Best known for writing "If I Were a Carpenter" (Bobby Darin) and "Reason to Believe" (Rod Stewart), Long Tall Timmy was a unique character, a gifted singer and songwriter who led a troubled life. Even in his early twenties, one can hear that there was a great deal going on here, and unfortunately, drug use would seriously impede his work from this point on. Nevertheless, these two albums have a bittersweet beauty to them that is difficult to describe. A few drunken blues numbers provide levity.

The domestic best-of _Reason to Belive_ misses too many key songs, and the two-disc _Hang on to a Dream_ anthology, while it does sound terrific and has an interesting essay, is really for fanatics. This is the best way to experience this music.
