Product Description

1-3/8" (Dia.) Roman Ogee Bit with 1/4" Shank

From the Manufacturer

Freud's precision ground carbide bits have a grain size smaller than other grades, and titanium is added making them impervious to chemical attack. Promoting safer woodworking is the reason Freud made a commitment to develop anti-kickback router bits. Bits are computer balanced to insure vibration-free operation at speeds that are a safe margin above the typical 22,000 RPMs of most routers. Freud's philosophy is woodworkers should expect safety, not pay for it. Over all diameter 1-3/8-inch, large radius-1/4-inch, shank 1/4-inch.

Freud Router Bits are known for their exceptional quality, unmatched precision and maximum cutting life. The bits are carefully crafted using the ideal materials, the industry's most sophisticated manufacturing processes, and include exclusive Freud features such as TiCo Hi-Density Carbide and red Perma-SHIELD non-stick coating. Freud's bits also contain revolutionary, innovative designs such as Quadra-Cut and Double-Grind.

Freud's revolutionary patented design for flawless finish with no rework. This 4 cutter design includes two large cutters that shear upward and two smaller cutters that shear downward to produce a splinter-free finish.

TiCo Hi-Density carbide is a specially formulated, highly compact Titanium Cobalt Carbide engineered and manufactured by Freud to maximize performance on all Freud cutting tools. Designed in Freud research and development laboratories, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density carbide is scientifically developed using Titanium Carbide, Cobalt and Tungsten (as well as proprietary elements), to produce a supreme product. Carbide size is extremely important when it comes to sharpness as well as the rate at which an edge wears. The larger the carbide grain, the faster an edge will wear. While standard carbides measure as large as 5 microns, and an advanced micrograin carbide can measure 1 micron, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide is miniscule in comparison at .8 microns, with a laminate blend as small as .4 microns.

this bit cuts well and leaves behind a surface that barely needs sanding. Delivery was quick and as promised.

Style Name: Quadra- Cut 1-3/8-Inch Diameter Classical Cove and Round Router Bit with 1/2-Inch
I have a lot of router bits ranging from cheap to very expensive. This is my first quadra-cut bit, but will surely not be my last! I just used this bit 30 minutes ago to treat the edge of a walnut table top. The extra cutters made a huge difference. The only sanding I had to do was just to drag a rolled up piece of 320 through the coves on the end grain. I was done in < 1 minute rather than the 30-45 minutes I'd expect to spend with other bits with similar profiles. Also, after making a test cut in some scrap, I decided to take a full cut in one pass on my workpiece rather than several smaller passes. It worked just fine with no bogging or tear-out; like cutting butter.

I will definitely check the quadra-cut lineup first before I buy another new router bit from any other manufacturer.

Being a wood worker for many years, this bit save a whole lot of labor, and bit sharping. Last year we did almost 160 tops with a solid maple wood edge. They needed a Roman OG profile on them. I went thur 4 bits sharpened four times before we were done. So far we have done 46 tops and I have not gotten a bit sharpened yet. We make the first 2 passes with the regular bit and use the Quadra bit for the final cut.

IF YOU WANT A PERFECT CUT,LASTING TOOL. GO WITH FREUD, I HAVE TRIED LOTS OF "THE BEST" CUTTERS , BUT FREUD I HAVE TO SAY THAT THEY ARE THE ONE THAT DO THE JOB. I USED THIS ON MAPLE AND THEY JUST CUT AWAY WITHOUT CHIPPING, BURNING AND USED AGAINST THE GRAIN THEY YOU KNOW WAHT YOU..

I BOUGHT THIS BIT BECAUSE IT HAS A 1/2 INCH SHANK. A BIT COSTLY BUT IT DID THE JOB AND IT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY. THIS IS THE FIRST ROUTER BIT I OWN WITH THAT 1/2 INCH SHANK BUT, IT WON'T BE THE LAST. A LOT LESS VIBRATION AND NO BURNING. IT'S A PIECE OF WORK.

This is the second Freud quadra-cut bit I own. They both leave a very smooth cut in poplar and cherry (only woods I have used them with so far). I didn't experience any burning with either wood. I was able to take the full cut in one pass with no problem. I have run about 100 feet through this particular bit and other than my own setup problem (not at all the bits fault) which resulted in a bit of snipe at the start the profile was excellent all the way through the cut.

For the record I tend to be a frugal purchaser, but if you have a profile that you expect to run a fair amount of wood through and want a good result and long term use, this appears to be worth the slightly higher price tag in my opinion

I've been using the 12" shank Freud QUADRA bits for a while in my 2 HP BOSCH router and have waited for the 1/4" shank version to use with my smaller, detail, router. I'm happy to report the Freud QUADRA 1/4" shank bit is living up to my expectations. It really does save a lot of fussy sanding that causes some projects to lose the sharp detail that is difficult to maintain. The QUADRA bits are more expensive, but time IS money too. So, pull the trigger and I think you'll be as pleased as I am with the results.

My dad bought me a router bit set with 50 bits in it, it cost him about $95.00, the first time that I used a bit from there the shank bent, I purchased this bit to replace it, you truly do get what you pay for.

The difference in the cuts that this makes from the cheaper bits is amazing, less sanding means faster projects.

As I need bits, I will replace the cheapos with a Freud bit.
