5.0 out of 5 stars who does this thing?
I can not believe how deeply this album rocked me. It
was like all the questions in my life had come to a

4.0 out of 5 stars Dufus - '1:3:1' (Roir), October 16, 2004
This review is from: 1:3:1 (Audio CD)
Does Roir seem to release some fun music or what?It might be tough to describe Dufus's music.'1:3:1' features fourteen quite 'entertaining' tracks.I guess one MIGHT call '1:3:1' out-of-control,friendly,humorous,foward and a bit challenging. The best cuts are "Jahflooey",the witty "More Girl Cops",the acoustic, yet quirky "Deepr N Lov","Making Go Crazy/Real" and "Fire".Wanted to mention that there are also a couple of tunes here that are just down right strange,"Little Bitta Reggae" and "Wooden Ghost Stuff".Dufus is music for misfits and outcasts of the world today.Sounds sort of like maybe Frank Zappa(R.I.P.) with a couple of members of Gong backing him up.Should appeal to fans of Mothers Of Invention,Captain Beefheart and Ween.

between dream and reality, they have no idea what they
are doing. it is amazing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Earfshattering, April 10, 2006

This album changed my life. Literally. "Donnah Mattr" convinced me to quit my 9-5 office job, pack up my things, and leave NYC to pursue my art somewhere out in the hills. I've never looked back...

All Music Guide said this album has the potential to change a young listener's life. I'm living proof it has.

4.0 out of 5 stars thank goodness..., December 20, 2004

yes. thank you.
i'm so glad people still take the time to make original music. the market is so saturated with the same old thing it's hard to find "real" music out there. the business people, who are very good at what they do, are always going to take their money and be safe. why would they gamble on some lanky guy with a strange voice that dresses in yarn?
if you've found this record you're one of the lucky ones. keep listening until you find all pop radio for what it is: just another un-clever, unwanted commercial.
hooray for dufus!

5.0 out of 5 stars dufus "1:3:1"...beauty will save us, October 28, 2003

Dufus is outsider music (mebi where the 'anti' comes from) while
simultaneously sending out an all-inclusive, non-pretentious invitation to its
listeners to join their party (mebi where the 'folk' comes from). The
electricity and specious chaos of the band's sounds (and i was going to list
songs as examples, but i think it runs through most of the songs in different
levels of intensity) is not a shallow energy constructed for the sole purpose
of being weird or to separate itself from everything else out there (although
dufus definitely does push the boundaries and tries to draw people out of the
zones of familiarity which they hide within to avoid being uncomfortably
exposed); it is a primal joy + spazm that your soul recognizes immediately and
begs to freak out to, even if you haven't freed your mind enough to let go of
your body in the directions in which dufus invites it.

Songs like "jahflooey" could not be more uplifting or inspiring. I used to

walk around with my headphones on listening to this song and I could not help
but jump in every puddle and smile high to the sky. Or singing along out loud
in public. I feel so natural belting out the word "jahflooey" as if it is a
word for a certain kind of glory that was stolen from my vocabulary at birth,
and I have finally found it again.

"Deepr n lov" harnasses less of an eccentric energy, but an untamed energy
nonetheless and your heart aches because Seth has found a way to communicate
by honesty, sensitivity and a refusal to dull down the power of emotion that
his words + vocals capture, at the risk of sounding over-dramatic or cheesy.
and because his voice is so genuine it's hard to imagine that this song would
not echo in the heart of every one who hears it.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn said in an essay titled, "Beauty Will Save Us,"

"The artist is given to sense more keenly than others the harmony of the world
and all the beauty and savagery of man's contribution to it--and to
communicate this poignantly to people."

Seth Faergolzia has been given this extra sense and dufus is it's voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dufus back again with the first, October 23, 2003

Though this is the first label release by Dufus, Seth and his band have been honing their craft and perfecting their art for years. This album is a milestone of grassroots music as well as a triumph for the band. From the very first stompalomp, Seth's audiences have been following his career and watching it slowly take flight. Now with 1:3:1, the world has been blessed with a soundtrack to confusion. Thank you Dufus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fan-frickety-tastic, July 18, 2003
This review is from: 1:3:1 (Audio CD)
Once again, the fantastic sounds of Seth Faergolzia and Dufus abound. There's just no stopping them- I enjoyed "Neuborns" so much that I used my underground musical connections to conjure up a copy of "1:3:1" and I'm happy I did. Songs like "More Grl Cops" show truly why dufus has potential staying power on the NYC scene, not to mention every other soulful rock scene of the world. Totally kickass album.
