I had purchased this kit to complement a holiday train layout set in Alaska and was intending to assemble the floatplane version. The fuselage is clear, which necessitates a good covering of paint (this seems to have been done in lieu of separate window panes). The main problems with this kit, however, are structural. First, the wings and horizontal stabilizers fit very loosely into the fuselage and must be propped from underneath to insure good glue adhesion. Well-built aircraft models will have tabs sized just right so that they fit snugly into the corresponding slots; here, however, gravity is against you. Secondly, there are no holes in the fuselage for the pontoon struts or steps to go into, only ones for the wheels and skis. An enterprising modeler could possibly guestimate the correct placement by using the instructions, but then they would have to drill through the sides with a very small bit. The holes in the pontoons also seem too big for the struts, a factor which makes these pieces even more fragile. After trying to switch to skis and fighting to keep the wings on, I decided to convert the model to a wrecked hulk on the shore of my lake. Very disappointing, as there are no other kits or die-cast replicas in this scale. It's no wonder it was discontinued.
