4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow recipes. Ingredients are easily found.
You will not feel as if you are deprived or going without using any of the recipes in this book. Many of the recipes can be put together very quickly. The savings comes from not using pre-packaged foods. Since we all know pre-packaged foods are loaded with sodium and other preservatives, this little book can also be considered good for your health!

This book may have been written on economically sound research for the late 80's or early 90's but it is sadly out of date as far as price estimates go; and that was the supposed idea of the publication. I could probably find a book about how to live on 5$ a week(in 1901) but that wouldn't apply to today.

The recipies are well presented, and flavorful. But slapping a price per serving on at the end doesn't make it true, nor does it explain how to get shrimp and steak for four at 95 cents a serving. A little bit more sound reasoning and modernazation is needed.

Ok so Carl didn't refer to a lot of hamberger (none in fact) but he sure dosen't shop at the same store I do. My average price per meal was around $4. Still good though, well worth the price of addmission.

I recommend this book for all budget minded families, not just for the recipes but for the knowledge about budgeting food.
Even with today's prices, the recipes are excellent for saving money. The food is not bland or boring. I have had no complaints from my spouse or children and they are very quick to turn up their noses at food that does not appeal to them.
