Product Description

Attractive and functional, the Anchor Hocking cracker jar can be used to store crackers, cookies, pastas, rice, and many other foods in an appealing and organized way. Fabricated from glass, this jar has a ribbed pattern on its corners that makes it easier to grip. Made out of brushed aluminum, the screw on cap will keep foods fresh as well as prevent spilling. Made in the USA, it can also be used for buttons, screws, beads, coins, and anything else that you would like to keep organized.

It's made in the U.S.A. and is excellent quality.

You can achieve a tight seal, but sometimes the lid becomes cross-threaded and has to be backed off.

* Update April 2014 * These are no longer a five-star product for me for one simple reason. The most recent Anchor Hocking cracker jar that I bought this week was made in...you guessed it...China. So, you can no longer assume Anchor Hocking is USA-made. Maybe some of it still is. Maybe none of it is. You'll have to check the sticker. I guess we don't make anything in the U.S. anymore!

Old Review: I own at least 10 of these in various sizes and use them for dry good storage. Call me sappy, but opening my pantry and seeing these jars is one of life's little pleasures. I LOVE Anchor Hocking glass. It's made in the U.S.A. and is excellent quality. These jars are well-designed with wide enough mouths to scoop from, tight-fitting lids (screw-on), and a solid, heavy feel. You can easily imagine these jars filled with colorful trinkets or candy and lining wooden shelves in an old general store. I would give these jars more than 5 stars if I could - that's how much I love them - BUT - the other reviewers are right in that Amazon's price for these is high. If you can only shop online and money is not an issue for you, go ahead and buy; otherwise, if you can get out to a local discount store, you can probably find these cheaper and in more sizes. Do consider that, if your space is severely limited, these jars are not designed to be stackable (as are some plastic sets).

I ordered over 25 of these jars directly from Anchor Hocking. Wish I had read Amazon's reviews before I had ordered these. They are right on about the lids. They simply DO NOT FIT. More then 50% of the lids can't even screw on to the glass running very loose and the other 50% is fine after I apply a sheet of plastic wrap. I contacted them directly and they kept saying they are not liable because they do not claim on their website that these are "air tight". This to me is very irresponsible. They might not state it's air tight, but they certainly did show a jar with cookies inside. Then they want me to ship some lids back to them. That would be ridiculous because why wouldn't they be already aware of this issue prior to me calling and have a bunch of them same lids in stock in their warehouse? They did not customize these lids for these jars. Personally, I can go online myself and source better fitting lids then these. Bottom line, Awesome heavy weight jars, but horrible lids.

I have several of these and they are great BUT I bought them for $4.96 at the big Wally World Store vs. this sites price at $9.++

I wish your price did not refelct taking advantage of on-line shoppers.

I got a couple of these for making water kefir and the liquid doesn't touch the lids, however they just have paper lining inside of the top. The lids are made in China and are complete junk---rusted after the first time I washed them!!!!! Now I will have to try to find a replacement lid that fits. I LOVE the glass jars though they are thick and good quality and made in USA! Too bad this company didn't charge a dollar more per jar and give you a quality lid.

The only storage jars I'll ever buy for my food pantry. Besides being made of heavy durable glass for food safety, these jars are made in the USA!
I have about 15. Also great storage jars for all kinds of things, from kids items to craft essentials!

I store all my crackers in one jar and cookies in the other. They are just the right size for our counter. Good quality.

What this is designed for, and the uses in which it excels, is storing dried items such as mushrooms, peppers and similar items. I use mine for storing dried peppers. In fact, I own two of these: one for each pepper type I normally cook with.

As long as you know the use for which these were designed and accept some limitations these jars can be perfect for many uses. The cap liner is a dead giveaway that this is not for storing any food or other item that needs to be kept airtight. Nor is it designed for liquids. The cap liner is a simple die cut piece of coated cardboard that serves as a semi-airtight gasket. I have uploaded a photo in customer-supplied images at the top of this page that shows the cap liner.

Like any Anchor Hocking glass product the jar itself is thick and well constructed. My only complaint is the lids are not a perfect fit to the threaded jar mouth. You can achieve a tight seal, but sometimes the lid becomes cross-threaded and has to be backed off. Frankly that is a pain. A minor one to be sure, but reason enough to subtract a star in my opinion.

Despite the flaw I noted, I am very pleased with these jars because they do exactly what I purchased them to do. They are heavy duty and easy to clean. In fact, I am planning to buy one more for another pantry ingredient I commonly use.
