What a delightful book. I particularly liked the simplistic, but direct approach this book makes on training animals. It was written so informatively and down to earth that ANYONE can now train their animal by just following these clear, but concise instructions. I am sending a copy to my grandson who is getting a new puppy. He will cherish having this information available to him. My congratulations to the author on a job well done.

I've been a dog trainer for the past two years and I use positive and loving methods to train my "students" and the results are always exellent! People learn that you can communicate with dog using love, respect, praise, fun, games... and everybody wins, both dogs and "parents". I strongly condemn the "newspaper smacking" ways; that's why I recommend this book to all of my customers. Is a great post training and forever training tool they should have at home. They might train one dog and 10 years later they get another one, this book is an exellent reference to always keep on hand. Is a classic. And is written in a very readable way where a 10 yr. old and a 90 yr. old can both use it and be successful! Way to go!!!

This was a wonderful book for my children to use. The photographs made it easy for them to understand. Both of my kids got a puppy for Christmas and have used this book to successfully train the puppies to sit, down and come!

The six weeks you spend teaching your dog the basic "must know" commands.. with each weekly session building upon the past session. There is a "no violence" view, and basis training on rewarding with lots and lots of treats (..watch out.. may lead to your dog being over-weight!). It has you reward him for every little thing.. especially in the beginning weeks. The techniques are very tedious, and it doesnt provide a clear solution as to what to do if your dog does not respond to that technique (all it says is "dont move on to next week's lesson until your dog obeys this weeks). Also, when starting out, you not even allowed to say the command name along with the command you are teaching your dog!! You are just told to coerce your dog to do it "without saying a word", then reward him with praise and treats. Overall, this would be a nice book for kids or those who have tons of time to spend with their dog, and are just starting out fresh without pre-notions of how a dog should be trained-- a basic teaching book, but definately NOT the best out there!!
