This album is a re-release of the first two Goethes Erben cassettes (one studio recording, one live). This is a great release because it shows Goethes Erben in a very young stage. Some songs like 'Das Ende', 'Der Weg' and '5 Jahre' will also appear on other albums of Goethes Erben, after all these years they have become the cult favourites of the Goethes Erben audience when they play live (and I can know because I've seen them playing for about 7 times). For those who have never heard of Goethes Erben but are interesed, 'Leben im Niemandsland' and 'Schach is nicht das leben' are a beter introduction to this great, German band.

This cd is a good place to start as any since their releases are rather hard to come by. The leader of the group has a very dramatic vocal style that I can't compare to anyone else out there. The instrumentals are usually sparce with just keyboards and percussion. Probably the most powerful use of the German language in music you'll hear.

I think this CD is is a very good one because if you understand the vocals, you can't listen without being touched by the music. The songs are very dark ones but if you like such sings you will love the CD. Not only the vocals tell the story, they wouldn't say anything without the music. After the first time I listen to Goehtes Erben, I said how awfull I will never like this. After the second listenig I thought, well maybe one or two nice tracks, and after the fiths listening I understand some of the songs. What I want to say is that Goethes Erben is not an easy music with which you can chill out but nevertheless it is really good Art. I quote this CD with four stars because there are some CDs from Goethes Erben which are better than this one (for exam. Schach ist nicht das Leben). But this is my opinion and I know that there will be a lot of people who won't like this music. If you like dark Music and if you understand a little bit of the german language the CD is worth a listening.
