Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Biomusique is a collaboration of soundtrack siren Lisbeth Scott and percussionist Greg Ellis. Formerly one half of the Persian fusion duo, Vas, Ellis brings those same sonic sensibilities to the cinematic voice of Scott, who has sung on scores to The Chronicles of Narnia, The Sixth Sense, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The duo meets in a meditative state touched with soul in songs that read like haiku. Brush strokes of spare words and sounds are placed like objects in a Zen garden. Scott's lyrics fall somewhere between an Abbess Hildegard von Bingen chant and a Rumi poem, short fragments outlining a vessel of emotion that can be impassioned and anguished on "Ananda" or imploring on "Caeili et Terra" (Heaven & Earth) where her soulful soprano is stacked up in Enyaesque choirs. Although Greg Ellis has pounded percussion grooves for Juno Reactor and Billy Idol, with Biomusique he’s a colorist as much as a rhythmatist, decorating tracks with all manner of global percussion instruments and even mountain dulcimer and trumpet. But even when Ellis brings out the tribal drums on "The Tender Green," Scott's layered vocals turn it into a slow, erotic throb. Biomusique's The 10,000 Steps is what happens when contemplative music is played with chops and soul. -- John Diliberto

5.0 out of 5 stars So beautiful, May 28, 2008
This review is from: 10,000 Steps (Audio CD)
I am slowly absorbing this wonderful new work. I first became acquainted with Lisbeth Scott's vocals on the State of Grace CD by Paul Schwartz and I have been a fan ever since.

This new work 10,000 Steps creates a peaceful and relaxed mood and touches the soul. Lisbeth's collaboration with singer/songwriter Greg Ellis is a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening and quiet, May 22, 2009
This review is from: 10,000 Steps (Audio CD)
Some days, I like just background music. It's tough to call this background music with subtle textures and hypnotic movements, but it is. If you just need to close your eyes and unwind after a long day, this is a great CD. Good for rainy, warm evenings or quiet Sunday mornings, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Music - but Current, October 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 10,000 Steps (Audio CD)
One could put this CD on and send it throughout the house on a Fall day and enjoy what life has to give. It's an excellent piece - the entire CD - amazing. The themes incorporated into each piece makes them rare onto themselves. If you enjoy life and want to be wrapped up in mystical dreams - then buy this CD. It's hard to pinpoint the area - but I'm pulled towards mountains, gentle winds, cloudy skys with a hint of sun, and a dry air that is neither cold or warm...I listen to this at least once a week. Enjoy life!
