4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, for what's out there right now, January 26, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 10.1" Windows 7 Tablet PC - 64GB SSD - 1.66GHz Atom N455 Processor - 2GB DDR3 - Wi-Fi & Bluetooth - 1.3MP Webcam - G-Sensor - HDMI Port - Multi Touch Screen (Electronics)
This item is meant to be a Windows 7 tablet that is comparable to something like the iPad. In my case, I needed this for a project, and none of the competing vendors (like ViewSonic) have a release date yet, so I got this one (note I'm writing this in January 2011 - I suspect the tablet market will change significantly in the coming months).

First, it's extremely well-built. The back is metal and it has a solid feel. However, it's so "solid" that is somewhat heavy. It's almost too heavy to hold in one hand for too long a period (it weighs just about 2 lbs; and iPad weights 1.5 lbs). Maybe a plastic back would've helped? The back is smooth too, so it's little tough to hang on to with one hand too.

Also, it's a little odd there is no information about manufacturer, brand, or model. It's just a "tablet computer" that is made from China. The device, the box, the manual all make no reference to a company or brand. However, it does have a 3 year warrantee card that you are to "send to manufacturer", but there is absolutely no reference to any company name or address. So, I don't know how legitimate that is? If you can get past that though, this does seem to be a pretty high-quality device that works well, so unless there is a catastrophic problem, I assume I'll be OK anyhow.

The price is on the high-side, in my opinion. If I didn't see a price on this, I would've guessed it should be maybe $399. But with supply-and-demand, beggars can't be choosers - but I would've liked to see a lower price.

Next, battery-life isn't great. With the backlit turned down, you might get 3.5 hours of battery life. With the backlight turned all the way up (and it is REALLY bright), you might get closer to 1.5 to 2 hours of battery life. So this is around the same as "regular" laptop or larger netbook with a 6-cell battery.

Aside from those few small things, this is everything else it claims to be! It has built-in wireless and bluetooth, the rotating screen (it has a built-in gyroscope), the multi-touch features, etc all work as expected. It looks really nice, it has clean lines.

As far as speed, it has the feel of a higher-end netbook (this has a solid state drive and Atom processor, so it's physically similar too). All around though, if you are looking for an iPad-like Windows tablet, this is a pretty good alternative. It's heavier than an iPad, and not super-cheap, but until other alternatives come out, this was by-far the best option I found (and I looked), and it turned out to be a pretty nice device. I'd recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars No issues so far, March 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 10.1" Windows 7 Tablet PC - 64GB SSD - 1.66GHz Atom N455 Processor - 2GB DDR3 - Wi-Fi & Bluetooth - 1.3MP Webcam - G-Sensor - HDMI Port - Multi Touch Screen (Electronics)
Pros
- Windows 7 Operating System
- 2 x USB Slots
- Micro SD slot
-

Cons
- Useless user's manual
- HDMI Port only working with VGA thus far
- Battery life 3-5 hours

This tablet has proven to be pretty good. I can use it just as I would use a small laptop or netbook but I get the touch screen interface. Microsoft Office 10, Kindle for PC, and all other applications work as if it were on any other PC. Because this was the first time I'd used Windows with a touch interface, I was surprised at how well it worked. I have not been able to test the wi-fi because of my location, but the ethernet adapter works well for internet. I am disappointed that I have not been able to connect HDMI directly to a TV. I have to use the VGA adapter to the HDMI port. Because the manual is so poor, I can't figure out if this is just the way it is or if I'm doing something incorrectly. But, the picture still has outstanding quality on the device and the TV. I get about 4-5 hours of battery life depending on the brightness setting of the screen and whether I'm listening to music or watching videos. I realize that this is much lower than an Ipad or Xoom, but I think its the cost of utilizing a computer operating system rather than a graduated cell phone operating system. I've installed a 32G microsd card and watch movies from it without any issues. Because it is running an atom processor, I don't notice any difference in speed versus a normal laptop.

Update, April 3: I now use wi-fi tether for internet without any issues. So the internet works well with ethernet and wi-fi.

Just got this thing yesterday. First off, let me just reassure you that ordering from Vostrostone in Hong Kong is the way to go. Thing got here quicker than parts I ordered from New Jersey, and I live in Maryland. Under a week for the shipping. Unbelievable.

The computer itself is nice. Good bright screen. The solid state hard drive is very quick. Boots up faster and opens programs faster than any machine I have encountered before. It has a micro-SD which means for about $60 more you can upgrade it to 96gb of storage. Be sure to read to minimal manual. There is a SIM card slot, which leads me to believe the box is 3G capable. The machine is "G" sensitive, but had to be switched to that mode. At stock Win7 settings, the icons are a bit tough to nail, but after enlarging them, it is pretty simple. If you have need of a Windows based machine wit pretty good speed, cheap, this is a good way to go.

For what it is worth, this machine is a Herokin H1010. You can't find that information anywhere in the ads.
