5.0 out of 5 stars great for travel
This is the prefect netbook computer for travel. It fits in a small backpack or large pruse. The wireless is great. It's fast and easy to use. You'll need to get use to the keyboard. I've used it for developing spreadsheets for work, email, internet and word processing. I just discovered it has swarovski crystals on the ends of the hinges.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great netbook, unresponsive support
This is a review of the S101 running Windows XP. The S101 was easy to set up and operate, is reasonable quick and responsive for general web browsing, mail etc. By that I mean apps start quickly and process quickly. The included bag is well padded, seems useful, and the packaging overall is quite nice - I bought this as a present for someone so that was appreciated...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Be very cautious of doing any BIOS or other updates on it, they seem to have adverse effects and my 2c is to only do them if they resolve a problem you know you are experiencing. In my case, it works great right out of the box.

Unfortunately, I have been conditioned to keep everything fully updated and patched so I did go the update route, and was burned badly. End result - Asus support never responded to my plea for help, and there was little or no info on their forums or knowledge base about the problem I had. I eventually fixed it myself. I would give this 4 stars if their support had responded. Their manual and web info also seems somewhat poorly translated, not horrible but just awkward.

The built in webcam is surprisingly good. The screen is small enough that a regularly set up Internet Explorer is useless, toolbars take up too much real estate. I'd suggest either turning them all off or running Google's Chrome instead so you have a fully usable screen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop, terrible price here on Amazon, March 2, 2009
This review is from: ASUS Eee PC S101 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB Solid State Drive, 30 GB Eee Storage, XP Home) UV Painting Brown (Personal Computers)
This is a great laptop for simple needs: travel, email, surfing the web, taking to the library to do research. But I cannot believe the price listed here on Amazon. I bought mine locally at a big, discount store (begins with a W), and it was much cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Overall Excellent, June 17, 2009

After much research, I chose this ultralight laptop for my needs. I love it! It is very light-weight, stylish, and affordable. I travel the world a few times a month from Beijing to Dubai and this does not weigh down my carry on at all. Very easy to use mousepad. Starts up very quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most appealing netbook, February 8, 2009
This review is from: ASUS Eee PC S101 10.2-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel Atom Processor, 1 GB RAM, 16 GB Solid State Drive, 30 GB Eee Storage, XP Home) UV Painting Brown (Personal Computers)
I was attracted by it's high glossy UV coating, and then I was pleased at the fact that it might be the slimmest & lightest netbook in the market - can I call it Mac air II?

keyboard could be bigger, the right shift key is uber annoying, and is a little overpriced compared to the eee 1000h and msi wind, especially since the specs are essentially the same.

it's not even as chic as the first Eee. They've replaced the "Asus" on the lid with a cheesy "Eee" and there are fingerprint smudges all over it.

edit: June, 2009: however!!! if you can find a good deal on it, it's pretty to have. the aesthetics are good, and it is light and lovely to look at. but you will go through many rubbing alcohol pads to keep it clean. it grows on you in time. still wish the "eee" was "asus" in the center though and i still think it's too expensive for its specs.
