5.0 out of 5 stars Good product; good price; good service September 7, 2010

The title communicates the main points. I used these for long-term food storage in generic five gallon buckets (could not find inexpensive or free food-grade containers).

The one caveat is that the O2 absorbers are sealed as a 10-pack... if you open the package to get one, all are exposed to the air. It's best to prepare 10 buckets except the last bit of the seal on the bag. Then add the O2 absorbers right before the final sealing of the Mylar. Otherwise you will need to find a small airtight container to store the O2 absorbers, and they will lose some of their capacity.

5.0 out of 5 stars SURVIVAL FOOD STORAGE February 17, 2010

Excellent products and packaged well. I used the bags and oxygen absorbers to store pasta and other items for emergency situations in five gallon food grade buckets. Since they are stored in an underground root cellar the food will last for many years unless needed sooner. The products arrived quickly and I would gladly do business with this company again.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!!!!! November 6, 2010

This is my first venture into storing food long-term. I did my homework and I chose this product because it looked like a good deal... Turns out it is much more than a good deal. Bags are very heavy-duty and absorbers were shipped vacuum packed. I highly recommend this product to anyone interested. I will be buying more! As a side note, I hi-jacked the wifes hair straightener and tried it for sealing the bags. Wow! I'm sure that I am not the first one to try this but it is absolutely the way to go. So, I ended up buying her a new hair appliance and I took over her old one! Stay prepared my friends...

5.0 out of 5 stars very happy with this order January 7, 2011

I've bought mylar bags and oxy absorbers from other companies, only to have the mylar bags arrive beat up or the absorbers pack be split open.

These items were packed with care, shipped fast, and are of high quality. The absorbers arrived sealed tight and the pack included an indicator pill to be sure that they were in good shape.

I'm very happy with this purchase, and having these items in a "kit" form is very convenient. I'll be ordering more from OakTea International.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mylar Bags and O2 Absorbers March 4, 2010

The seller (Oak Tree) shipped them fast enough - if I remember right I had them within 2 weeks - maybe closer to one week.

The bags together with 2000 cc 02 absorbers is a good price I think. The 02 absorbers come vacuum sealed with a little red pill inside. The pill turns blue if exposed to oxygen. After I opened the pack I put the remaining into a mason jar. I only had them exposed for a few seconds but the pill started turning purple. Then it turned red again in the jar so I guess the absorbers were sucking the 02 out of the jar and it did have a good vacuum seal when I opened it again.

I did 3 buckets of rice, 3 of wheat a couple of beans and also a bucket of sugar and a bucket of salt. I used Home Depot buckets because I don't see the point or the sense in spending money on food grade buckets and then putting a mylar bag inside. People don't talk about it but think about it - mylar has a metallic lining and no chemicals are going to get through. Anyway, I bought 10 new Home Depot orange buckets with lids for about $34 total.

This was my first time storing food like this. I sealed the bags with my wife's hair straightener and it worked great, I think. Some of my bags seemed to suck up to the food like they were vacuum packed and some didn't and seemed to still have air inside. I don't know if this is because I did something wrong or what. There didn't seem to be any holes in the bags. Then after reading some more, I decided I better freeze the food to kill any critters that may be inside. So after I sealed them I froze one for 3 days at -10 degrees and now I'm concerned about condensation inside so I'm going to open it up and check.

Anyway the bags seemed okay and the 02 absorbers seemed to work. I just ordered more.

Hurricane Ike put our power down for 11 days. The only grocery store that remained open had a very limited selection and supply. I have stored lots of canned goods in the past, but after 12 months, the expiration gets closer. Then I start to wonder: Can I eat 648 ounces of ranch style baked beans in the next 12 months? Do I want to??

Yes, of course I could extend that pallet to include all the canned foods I eat everyday, right? I don't eat canned foods at all, but spending $30 on cans of beans seemed like a cheap and easy way to keep edible food onhand for a disaster scenario.

White rice, rolled oats, and pinto beans store very well in these Mylar bags with an O2 obsorber in each bag. Use an iron to seal the bag closed, hammer the food grade plastic lid on, and presto: Fresh food for months, that will keep for over a decade. 100 lbs each of rice/oats/beans will fit nicely in 10x 5 gallon buckets with little room to spare. If they are unused after 10 years, I will check the contents and begin to cycle them out in my diet. The great thing about the mylar bags is that you can pour out a weeks worth and reseal the bag several times.

I labeled and dated each bucket and stored them away. They don't know, but I wrote "Because I Love My Family" on the bottom of each can. I hope they never have to find out.

Anyways, 5 stars for a good food storage combo deal. =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for Preppers
The mylar bags can be heat sealed with a household vacuum packer as long as you tapper the sides. The O2 absorbers work to keep food fresh for an extended period.
