Pearl Jam's 10 year anniversary special, March 27, 2001
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
Pearl Jam released over 70 official bootlegs, documenting their entire official tour in support of Binaural.
Out of these 70 shows, there is a dozen or so that really stand out, like Milan, Verona, Katowice II, Pittsburgh, Jones Beach III and St. Louis.
And then, there are the best of the best. The shows that every Pearl Jam fan MUST have in their collection. They are Seattle II, the final show of the tour, and Las Vegas, the band's 10th anniversary show.
When Pearl Jam took the stage in Las Vegas on October 22nd, 2000, it seemed that the very elements were against them. Eddie Vedder apparently had a severe cold, and the entire band was extraordinarily nervous. The first few songs show this off really well. The band sort of stumbles through the short instrumental Interstellar Overdrive, Corduroy, Breakerfall, Grievance and Last Exit. Things start to pick up with Animal, at the end of which Eddie tells the crowd how nervous the band is. From there on, Pearl Jam seems to find new confidence, and the rest of the set is simply smoking. The band nails literally every song they play, driving the crowd into a frenzy. Eddie gives a huge speech before Even Flow mainly about the demo tapes that got him the gig as the band's lead singer. The references to the pre-Pearl Jam days continue during the encore, when the band plays an incredible rendition of Mother Love Bone's Crown Of Thorns (for those of you not in the know, Mother Love Bone was the band that several members of Pearl Jam used to be in. The death of Mother Love Bone's singer, Andy Wood, spawned the Pearl Jam-Soundgarden side project called Temple Of The Dog). Brendan O'Brien, Pearl Jam's long-time collaborator, plays keyboards on this one, as well as Black and I Can't Help Falling In Love, an Elvis cover. Finally, the show ends with the Who's Baba O'Rilley and Pearl Jam's very own Yellow Ledbetter. An amazing show throughout and a definite must-have!

SMOOTH!!!!, April 18, 2001
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
I have followed this band from the beginning and my passion for PJ keeps growing every year. What other band would even think about releasing live recordings of two entire tours? Their appreciation for their fans is unmatched. Speaking of unmatched, the Las Vegas show blew me away and probably won't leave my cd player for another couple of months. The sound quality is amazing but hey...could pearl jam ever sound bad? The set list is outstanding especially the covers of Mother Love Bone's "Crown of Thorns", Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love"(my personal favorite 'cause the song with Eddie's voice is like spanish fly to the ladies), and The Who's "Baba O'Reilly". I highly recommend this cd for it's sentimental value since it is the 10th Anniversary of Pearl Jam show but you will not be disappointed with any of their live cds. In a world full of corporate boy bands and sound alike rock/rap bands; it is nice to know that there are five guys still making music for themselves and their fans and not the [...] TRL generation.

A Sentimental Favorite, but an Iffy Performance, October 24, 2001
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This show in Las Vegas commemorates the tenth anniversary of Pearl Jam as a performing unit. So this show is definitely an emotional and sentimental evening for the band. Eddie Vedder is extra talkative this evening, reminiscing about the earlier days of the band's history, and making special note of Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard's seventeen years together. Setting aside the sentimentalism, however, I will have to give this show an A-minus overall (but still good enough for five Amazon stars). This is because when you get down to the music, this is not an especially great performance by the band, as compared to some of the more solid shows in the tour. The band commits several errors, especially timing glitches in "Last Exit" and "Nothing As It Seems." Mike McCready bungles some of the soloing in "Dissident" and Stone commits some blatant errors in "Mankind" and in the intro to "Crown of Thorns." This show does have some exceptional numbers however, like powerhouse versions of "MFC" and "Porch," plus a shimmering performance of "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter..." Of special interest are the inclusion of the old Elvis tune "Can't Help Falling in Love" (only played in Vegas and Memphis for obvious reasons), plus the above-mentioned "Crown of Thorns," a beautiful song played in tribute to Jeff and Stone's previous band Mother Love Bone and its late vocalist Andrew Wood.
