Pearl Jam's 10 year anniversary special,
By
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
Pearl Jam released over 70 official bootlegs, documenting their entire official tour in support of Binaural.Out of these 70 shows, there is a dozen or so that really stand out, like Milan, Verona, Katowice II, Pittsburgh, Jones Beach III and St. Louis. And then, there are the best of the best. The shows that every Pearl Jam fan MUST have in their collection. They are Seattle II, the final show of the tour, and Las Vegas, the band's 10th anniversary show. When Pearl Jam took the stage in Las Vegas on October 22nd, 2000, it seemed that the very elements were against them. Eddie Vedder apparently had a severe cold, and the entire band was extraordinarily nervous. The first few songs show this off really well. The band sort of stumbles through the short instrumental Interstellar Overdrive, Corduroy, Breakerfall, Grievance and Last Exit. Things start to pick up with Animal, at the end of which Eddie tells the crowd how nervous the band is. From there on, Pearl Jam seems to find new confidence, and the rest of the set is simply smoking. The band nails literally every song they play, driving the crowd into a frenzy. Eddie gives a huge speech before Even Flow mainly about the demo tapes that got him the gig as the band's lead singer. The references to the pre-Pearl Jam days continue during the encore, when the band plays an incredible rendition of Mother Love Bone's Crown Of Thorns (for those of you not in the know, Mother Love Bone was the band that several members of Pearl Jam used to be in. The death of Mother Love Bone's singer, Andy Wood, spawned the Pearl Jam-Soundgarden side project called Temple Of The Dog). Brendan O'Brien, Pearl Jam's long-time collaborator, plays keyboards on this one, as well as Black and I Can't Help Falling In Love, an Elvis cover. Finally, the show ends with the Who's Baba O'Rilley and Pearl Jam's very own Yellow Ledbetter. An amazing show throughout and a definite must-have!

SMOOTH!!!!,

I have followed this band from the beginning and my passion for PJ keeps growing every year. What other band would even think about releasing live recordings of two entire tours? Their appreciation for their fans is unmatched. Speaking of unmatched, the Las Vegas show blew me away and probably won't leave my cd player for another couple of months. The sound quality is amazing but hey...could pearl jam ever sound bad? The set list is outstanding especially the covers of Mother Love Bone's "Crown of Thorns", Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love"(my personal favorite 'cause the song with Eddie's voice is like spanish fly to the ladies), and The Who's "Baba O'Reilly". I highly recommend this cd for it's sentimental value since it is the 10th Anniversary of Pearl Jam show but you will not be disappointed with any of their live cds. In a world full of corporate boy bands and sound alike rock/rap bands; it is nice to know that there are five guys still making music for themselves and their fans and not the [...] TRL generation.

A Sentimental Favorite, but an Iffy Performance,
By
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
Disclaimer: Owner of all 72 official PJ bootlegs. This show in Las Vegas commemorates the tenth anniversary of Pearl Jam as a performing unit. So this show is definitely an emotional and sentimental evening for the band. Eddie Vedder is extra talkative this evening, reminiscing about the earlier days of the band's history, and making special note of Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard's seventeen years together. Setting aside the sentimentalism, however, I will have to give this show an A-minus overall (but still good enough for five Amazon stars). This is because when you get down to the music, this is not an especially great performance by the band, as compared to some of the more solid shows in the tour. The band commits several errors, especially timing glitches in "Last Exit" and "Nothing As It Seems." Mike McCready bungles some of the soloing in "Dissident" and Stone commits some blatant errors in "Mankind" and in the intro to "Crown of Thorns." This show does have some exceptional numbers however, like powerhouse versions of "MFC" and "Porch," plus a shimmering performance of "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter..." Of special interest are the inclusion of the old Elvis tune "Can't Help Falling in Love" (only played in Vegas and Memphis for obvious reasons), plus the above-mentioned "Crown of Thorns," a beautiful song played in tribute to Jeff and Stone's previous band Mother Love Bone and its late vocalist Andrew Wood.

What Have I Been Missing All These Years?,
By
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
I never thought of myself as a real Pearl Jam Fan. Ten sits in my CD collection and gets taken out once or twice a year, blows my mind and gets put back. On a lark, though, I picked this one up the other day and it's all I've been able to listen to since. I plan to buy all these discs. What an amazing show! If I were told I could own only one Pearl Jam CD, this would be it. I love live albums and this is one of the best I have.

Great way to celebrate an anniversary,
By
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
This concert of course marks the 10th anniversary of Pearl Jam's first concert ever, at the Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle. They chose to begin the concert from the rocking angle, with a particularly inspired cover of Interstellar Overdrive by Pink Floyd, leading into Corduroy, rather than the more typical slow intro with Release, Of the Girl, or Long Road. This leads into a main setlist fairly typical, although no less inspiring and magical, of the Binaural tour. However, the final leg of the setlist is one of a kind. Ed thanks many of the people who have helped them over the years, and then leads into Mother Love Bones' "Crown of Thorns". The guys nail the song. Later they play Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love", which is a slower version than the one they performed in Memphis. Other notables of the set are a ripping "Porch" with a great McCready solo. To end the show, the audience is treated to both Baba O'Riley and Yellow Ledbetter. There were high expectations for this anniversary show, and as usual, the band did not disappoint.

Awesome!,

This album is pure madness! You have everything you need for a great live show. A spectacular setlist, extraordinary singing and (most importantly) great renditions of each song. What stands out the most (which these songs alone makes it worth buying) is "Crown of Thorns," "Dissident," "Betterman," "Grievance" and "Can't help falling in Love." This is one of the best live show albums that will ever come out. BUY THIS immediately. A tremendous show awaits you.

Favorite bootleg of all,
By ticb2005 (Nor*Cal) - See all my reviews

I'll first add the disclaimer that this was the first Pearl Jam bootleg I ever owned, so it has a special place in my heart. Onto the review.
As previously mentioned, this was Pearl Jam's 10th anniversary show, and it is indeed memorable. Highlights include a great opening of Pink Floyd's 'Interstellar Overdrive' into the always welcome 'Corduroy' and a really nice use of 'Untitled' into 'MFC'. For me, one of my favorite things on the whole album is the way 'Lukin' leads into 'RVM'. While it's not used as an actualy segue, like with 'Not For You', but instead, right at the end of the song, Eddie hits the A-string as a test, and immediately goes into 'RVM', which sounds just awesome. 'Once' makes a cool appearance, but Eddie's speech after it is even better, with which he introduces the beautiful Mother Love Bone cover of 'Crown of Thorns'. Even if Stone did botch the intro by starting too soon, I think that it doesn't sound all that bad. 'Small Town' sounds wonderful, as does 'Last Kiss'. But I think that one of my other faves off of this bootleg is the Who's 'Baba O'Riley', which just sounds oh so much better because of the coherent sing back from the crowd. Overall, I think that this is a beautiful bootleg, with some quite memorable speeches, mainly consisting of Eddie explaining the band's origins and thanking Jeff and Stone for trying so hard to get everyone together. The biggest drawback would definitely be the feedback on 'Insignificance' and 'Once', or Mike's Flying V cutting out at the beginning of 'Do the Evolution'. But regardless of the mistakes, this album is a definite must have for anyone, big fan or not. And if you're not, I'm sure this will convert you. 'Crown of Thorns' should be able to do this by itself, though it isn't really a PJ song!

Rumored as best p.j. live album...,
By Daniel Vaccaro "Danny" (Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
you've heard the rumor, right? if you haven't i'm hear to tell you that there's this rumor that this is the best p.j. live bootleg album in the neverending series, and i must say that the rumor is probably true. I'm not one to say for sure considering i don't own all of the live albums like our disclaimer friend, but still it is a very enjoyable show, with alot of rare stuff; which is a treat because i love the stuff that is a little less well known. Anyways i have about 20 of the live albums and this is truly one of the best one's. If you want to hear an overview of p.j. live and at their best then i insist on this one

Not just the best PJ bootleg of their tour stops, but one of the best live performances and recordings ever made. Most of my favorite versions of their best songs are on this CD, even better than the studio versions. It was a historic night and a historic performance. The Seattle and Boise stops are great but this is the one.

10th Year Anniversary,
By A Customer
This review is from: 10/22/00 - Las Vegas, Nevada (Audio CD)
This is probably the must-own pearl jam bootleg of those released so far, being Pearl Jam's 10th Year Anniversary. They do a series of stunning covers, which Ten Club members will already have with their 2000 Christmas Single. Get it for the occasion, and that they cover "Crown of Thorns", "Can't Help Falling in Love with You", and "Baba O Riley". Its a must-own bootleg
