This review is from: 1:10 9.6v Rock Crawler Jeep w/BP&C (Toy)
This is realy a similar in value(bang-for-your-buck) to the Nylint Wrangler rockcrawler that Wal-mart sells, but the you literally get what you pay for with both of them. This is the cheaper of the two, and the tires aren't as soft, the suspension a little too stiff, and gearing a little too high. The steering servo is pretty weak too, but it does work. It's not as digital-proportional as the Nylint model, but hey, its half the price.
You CAN crawl with it, it just takes a light touch with the trigger to avoid wheelspin as the tires arent quite soft enough for the weight of the vehicle. It does go a lot of places a typical cheapie RTR R/C truck wont go, just on account of articulation and wheel size and ground clearance.
The fold-down windshield and lame lightbar are the first to fall victim to repeated rollovers. The differential skid plates can be removed for better clearance as they dont really do anything but drag anyway.
I have seen these advertised elsewhere as having a hi and lo gear selector...they DO NOT. As I said before, the gearing is a little too tall for real slow crawling but it does have enough snap with a fresh battery to light all four tires up on dirt.
The Nylint one from Walmart does have two speeds, and it's a shift-on-the-fly deal(sort of). Low is a little too low in my opinion, and high is faster than the suspension and high CG can really handle- it will roll if steered too fast at top speed in hi gear.
Fun and realistic for the price, not as realisticly usable as more expensive RTR models of similar intent and pedigree.
