Book Description

Architecture June 13, 2000
This is a comprehensive view of contemporary architecture, presenting the work of 100 exceptional international architects. It provides an opportunity to see a diverse, inspirational collection of recent work, selected by 10 of the world's best informed architectural critics. The architects are presented in A-Z order, with four pages allocated to each practice, including an accompanying text by one of the ten critics. It is intended to be a global selection. Some of the architects have yet to gain recognition worldwide, but among the names are those who have achieved international publicity and acclaim for their work during the mid-1990s. The work shown here features over 250 buildings and projects, including recent built work as well as projects currently under construction, due for completion in the 21st century. The work also features 10 essays written by the critics specially for this publication, which give their view of current architectural issues. In addition, they have chosen 10 cultural references, from designed objects to film, theory and literature, which show the range of influences in today's rapidly changing design environment. Works reproduced in this volume include writings by Italo Calvino, David Mamet and Peter Weibel, among others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye Candy - A Lot of It., September 29, 2000
By
Patrick Chatfield (Concord, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 X 10 (Architecture) (Hardcover)
This publication is definitely delicious eye candy for the graphically inclined. Heck, even the "changing" cover catches your eye as you walk by, reminding you of those days of prizing those "animated" animal cards from your Cracker Jacks boxes...

As for content, there's enough work to keep you uploading for a while. There is a good mix of both real and virtual projects, which is refreshing. It does, however, catch an all-to-brief snapshot of what's current in the world today, and the layout is caught up with itself in a more of a "lets see how much we can cram into a book and pass it off graphically as the next S M L XL ...". As an architect well into his career, it is a good reference book, with some of my favourite projects (read from other magazines) contained in it. For the price, well worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars not just a coffee table book, July 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 10 X 10 (Architecture) (Hardcover)
Although I was initialy detered by the publisher and the size of the book, I decided to purchase it. It consists of an extraordinary compilation of Architecture for the year 2000. Even though some of the projects have been presented in other books, here they are more in context and are shown in an amazingly complete way for a 4 page presentation. This book will soon become a reference. Very rich graphicaly and quite refreshing.

5.0 out of 5 stars 10x10 is awesome !, October 21, 2000
By
Bernardo Medina (bellaire, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 X 10 (Architecture) (Hardcover)
This book is an awesome collection of unussually creative projects, tons of beautifull full page photos, mixed media graphics, models and X-treme page layouts. A vast amount of architectural imagery, great resource of ideas, design vocabulary and construction systems from around the world; exceptionally presented in this oversize format, truly a reflection of the new directions in contemporary Architecture. The author has a master eye for the "new" and "unique".
