4.0 out of 5 stars Eye Candy - A Lot of It.
This publication is definitely delicious eye candy for the graphically inclined. Heck, even the "changing" cover catches your eye as you walk by, reminding you of those days of prizing those "animated" animal cards from your Cracker Jacks boxes...

As for content, there's enough work to keep you uploading for a while. There is a good mix of both...

1.0 out of 5 stars Faux Celebrity Architecture
This is another made for architectural event. The book is too big, the photographs too many, and the level of talent too small. Another grouping of architects who will be forgotten 12 months from now.

The critics, selections and the poor knock off of SMLXL are all contrived. Save your money.

There is a good mix of both real and virtual projects, which is refreshing. It does, however, catch an all-to-brief snapshot of what's current in the world today, and the layout is caught up with itself in a more of a "lets see how much we can cram into a book and pass it off graphically as the next S M L XL ...". As an architect well into his career, it is a good reference book, with some of my favourite projects (read from other magazines) contained in it. For the price, well worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars not just a coffee table book, July 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: 10 X 10 (Architecture) (Hardcover)
Although I was initialy detered by the publisher and the size of the book, I decided to purchase it. It consists of an extraordinary compilation of Architecture for the year 2000. Even though some of the projects have been presented in other books, here they are more in context and are shown in an amazingly complete way for a 4 page presentation. This book will soon become a reference. Very rich graphicaly and quite refreshing.

This book is an awesome collection of unussually creative projects, tons of beautifull full page photos, mixed media graphics, models and X-treme page layouts. A vast amount of architectural imagery, great resource of ideas, design vocabulary and construction systems from around the world; exceptionally presented in this oversize format, truly a reflection of the new directions in contemporary Architecture. The author has a master eye for the "new" and "unique".

5.0 out of 5 stars ....., November 23, 2000
By
This review is from: 10 X 10 (Architecture) (Hardcover)
The author Haig Beck is a design professor at the University Of Melbourne, Australia. He was the editor of many prominent international rchitectural journals. This new book of his features many contemporary architects of the present (year 2000) all around the world. Well, what can i say, IT IS WELL WORTH IT!
For a book of it's price, it contains pages after pages of coloured graphics, photos, computer generated stuff of the buildings on glossy paper. A lot of the projects are really state of the art too with technological superiority. Reflects the new ways of building now.
Featured architects include LAB, Ashton Ragatt McDougal (Storey Hall RMIT), and many others. Big and heavy book, and great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book, March 24, 2002

This book is a very beautiful and well put together book. It is a great idea book for surfaces, details, and spaces. The only downside is the high quantity of flashy digital images and projects based more in fantasy than reality.
