Biggest Dissapoinment,
By David Robinson (New Orleans, LA) - See all my reviews

LL Cool J has a place in history as being one of the greatest MCs of all time. But if you heard this album alone, you would wonder why. This album is complete garbage. LL Cool J sells out and tones down his style. He colloborates with P. Diddy, Jennifer Lopez, and Dru Hill, leaving behind his skill to rock the mic. The album includes boring love tracks like "Paradise" and "All I Have.", plus lame materialistic songs like "Mirror Mirror", and "After School." Sure, "Throw Ya L's Up" and "10 Million Stars" have decent verses, which could be an attempt to redeem himself to hardcore rap fans. But if you compare those tracks to 90 percent of the songs from any of the previous nine albums, it will be disappointing. As far as I'm concerned, the only song that has any meaning is " Luv U Better". Although it is another love song, it has great production (by the Neptunes) and great lyrics. This album is called "10", so it's supposed to be a milestone. But he blew it, and made his tenth the worst album yet. LL, apparently it's over for you as an MC. Please stick to acting.

I love LL, but this was his first album I actually THREW away. Please LL: Stick with the old school, true hard hip hop. All this smoothed out R&B garbage sucks. Really awful. Never measure up to PHENOMENON or 14 SHOTS TO THE DOME, and certainly not up to any of his earlier work. Bad. Really bad.

LL's Last Good LP (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars),

Wow, not many rappers can make it to their 10th album. That is a huge accomplishment, especially from LL, one of the pioneers of our rap generation. Some say that LL's last good album was Mr. Smith, but in my opinon "10" was his last great one. I think the reason why people didn't like this is because this album was catered to the females, but not as much as his recent LP. I really wasn't feeling the frist single "Luv U Better" but I gave it a try anyway. The second single "Paradise" with Amerie was straight fabolous. It's one of those songs that makes guys appreciate their girlfriend. A lot of these songs were bumping, up tempo tracks, and that is the reason why I like this album. "Born To Love You" and "Fa Ha" were both excellent songs. Even when he uses his deep voice and names every hit song he made on "Mirror Mirror", it's still dope. Even the dedication to his grandmother "Big Mama (Unconditional Love)" was a great song.
As for anything bad. There are a few songs that I think are skippable. "After School" with P. Diddy, I didn't like. Also "Niggy Nuts" is an easily forgettable song. And as I said before, I wasn't feeling the first single "Luv U Better". The production will be the biggest standout on this album. People may hate on this, but this is an excellent album from LL. This was also the very last time when he went strong, and actually put some effort into his albums. This album is more balanced for females, but guys like me enjoy it as well. It's all down hill from this album for Uncle L. 4.0 stars. Lyrics: B Production: A- Guest Appearances: B Musical Vibes: A- Overall: B+ My Favorite Tracks: Born To Love You, Paradise, Fa Ha, Amazin', U Should, 10 Million Stars, Mirror Mirror, Big Mama (Unconditional Love) Peace!!

LL cool J has the greatest voice in history of Hip hop. He has mastered the art of rapping and the art of loving. On 10 he really focuses on loving and feelings. In LL's previous CDs he has focused more on being the best and proving his skills. This album is the best right after His first album LL Cool J. He is going to be known as a historian and children will look at him as a role model

I respect LL so much....I think he is very under-rated to be in this game so long. The guy seriously has some lyrical talent folks!!!Anyways on that note I really didn't feel that this one was that good compared to other LL stuff. I like the fact that he finally hooked up with the Neptunes because that song is tight as heck. Heck I would just by the CD for that song. The lyrics are there and so is the production but it doesn't catch me like all the other of LL's work. But the Cd is Mos Def worth a listen. Peace folks!!!

Despite the obvious pop crossovers, I prefered this one to G.O.A.T. overall. It was just better in my view. From "Luv U Better", "Paradise", "Amazing", "Fa Ha" and others. I even liked "Lollipop" for some reason! I agree the J-Lo crossover was a waste of time but LL's part is the only reason that song sold in my opinion because we all know that J-Lo can't really sing. So, for helping a fellow entertainer, I won't hold that against him!Overall, a strong CD. Not his best mind you but it is far from "suck" level. |
