4.0 out of 5 stars Strong CD, better than expected
I saw Marq and the new Bulletboys at a rock festival here in Maryland this summer. I really had little interest in seeing them, so I was stunned when they came on and put on an spectacular, high-energy show. I saw Marq and the new Bulletboys at a rock festival here in Maryland this summer. I really had little interest in seeing them, so I was stunned when they came on and put on an spectacular, high-energy show. Based on that performance, I looked searched for the band online and found that this CD would be released this summer. Finally got it a week or so ago, and it's just as surprising (in a good way) as the performance had been a couple months earlier.

Fans of old-school Bulletboys may be a bit dismayed when they hear that the band sounds completely different. It's so different, I'm sure many would say the band shouldn't even be called Bulletboys--but let's face it: Bulletboys have some (probably not much anymore) name recognition, so it's smart to use an established band name.

I would liken this to the Skid Row album ThickSkin, which saw (on some cuts, at least) an entirely new sound and direction for a well-established 80's rock outfit. Many gave it bad reviews, saying the new sound didn't work for them. Fair enough. If you can put the new sound aside and listen with open ears, I'd be surprised if there's any hard rock fan that didn't like this album.

"Road to Nowhere" isn't the most original title, but the song is excellent. as is the the album opener "Asteroid" and "jenna Star." Actually, they're all pretty good. What's also pretty good (surprisingly so) is the production of the album. I doubt these guys have much of a budget to work with, and yet sonically this album sounds great.

Go in with an open mind. Don't expect "Smooth Up In Ya '09" or another "For the Love of Money" and you might just like what you hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome comeback disc!, September 9, 2009
This review is from: 10 Cent Billionaire (Audio CD)
The new Bulletboys - 10ct. Billionaire, is a great disc. The songs are instantly memorable, and the amazing production adds a 1-2 punch to the Bulletboys sound. This is a must have for anyone that loves hard rock! I would liken this comeback disc to Bon Jovi's "Crush", or Europe's "Start from the Dark" releases. It's the same badass backbeat that Bulletboys have always offered...but with a powerful modern punch, that was well worth the wait. Don't hesiate...check it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great comeback album!!!, August 28, 2009

This is probably one of the best comeback albums by an 80's band I've heard in quite some time. Only Marq Torien remains from the original lineup but that is of no matter because of just how good this record is. There are countless 80's bands who have tried to modernize their sound and failed. Bulletboys not only modernize their approach effectively but still retain that 80's flair as well. We'll probably never see one of the 80's glam/rock/metal bands break into the mainstream again but if one ever did this is the record to make it happen. Do yourself a huge favor and pick this one up. Key tracks include Asteroid, Born To Breed, and Road To Nowhere. Don't expect Smooth Up In Ya part 2 but expect to hear some kick ass rock nonetheless.

Great album... so much more than I expected. Production is actually good and surprisingly clear - with in your face riffs and vocals! My favs - Asteroid, Born to Breed, Jenna Star (radio hit for sure), and Wasted. You won't be disappointed... go to iTunes and listen to the samples... Nice job boys!

Great CD. Better than Sophie, not quite as good at the original line-up, but wow. If you are a bullet boys fan you will not be disappointed. "Asteroid" is just great. Marq's voice is awesome. Guitars rock. You'll like this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Sophie, April 3, 2010
This review is from: 10 Cent Billionaire (Audio CD)
I am the biggest BulletBoys fanatic in the world and have loved them since Smooth Up In Ya, but i really miss that leathery bluesy sound that made them an amazing rock band that was on the debut and Freak Show. Still, all along the way (even through Acid Monkey) I've been a supporter. Marq Torien just has one of the coolest rock voices every. I just wish they'd recapture that early sound. I really listen to the mix of records and since the Templeman days, the sound hasn't actually been the same.

This release actually surprised me. I thought the sound quality was much better than I've heard from the BulletBoys in awhile and the songwriting was quite refreshing. I actually loved Sophie and I only wished the sound quality would've been more in your face instead of garage-band sounding, because some of this cuts on Sophie were really cool. Luckily, 10c Millionaire has stepped up the sound production a notch or two.

Hey, I'm not knocking the band, I anxiously await anything they release, but I wanted to be honest about the record. I do wish the original line-up would get together though and do something beyond a re-recording of their hits. Maybe if the gang would get back together, we'd hear some banshee wails again. Although Torien has branched away quite a bit from his banshee wailing (which is what hooked me) and went more to crooning, he still always sounds really cool and I enjoy listening to this record over and over again. I have it in my iPhone to pump me up when jogging!

Of all the new releases from my old favorite bands(Whitesnake, Priest, ACDC, etc) this is definitely one of my favorite releases. Keep rockin Marq!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a Million..., November 5, 2009
This review is from: 10 Cent Billionaire (Audio CD)
Even though I wish the original band were still together (Mick Sweda, Lonnie Vencent, Jimmy D'anda),
you have to give Marq Torien credit for producing the second quality BulletBoys record of the 2000s.
In 2003, there was the vastly overlooked Sophie. and 2009 brings a welcome addition to the Pigs
collection: 10c Billionaire...

"Asteroid" starts things off with a bang, and the train never really slows down. Although there isn't a
song as strong as Sophie's "Neighborhood", "Jenna Star" and "Save the World" come damn close. And
you gotta love the Mother Love Bone riff that drives "Bringing Home the Gun".

Overall, this is a solid hard-rocking effort that stays true to the old days while keeping in mind that it
is indeed 2009. Nothing wrong with bringing the two together...

ok first of all i dont give a crap if this does not sound like there 1st album because its very great! marq put a lot of time in 2 this and its a job well done. His voice is a little ruff in some of the songs but he still delivers with a high power scream that makes ur hair stand up. i just got the cd 2day and its very very awesome. it has alot of energy that the 1st record had and its a must have! you can go on to itunes and listen to the 30 seconds of each song, trust me its very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars REINVENTING AN '80S HAIR BAND, February 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 10 Cent Billionaire (Audio CD)
10CT. BILLIONAIRE HAS BEEN OUT FOR A WHILE AND i WAS VERY SKEPTICAL ABOUT GIVING IT A GO. CONSIDERING MARQ TORIEN WAS THE LONE ORIGINAL MEMBER LEFT, I FIGURED IT WAS A LAST DITCH EFFORT TO REKINDLE THE PAST. "WOW!" THAT'S WHAT I SAY. THE BULLETBOYS HAVE REINVENTED THEMSELVES WITH A GREAT ALTERNATIVE CD. THESE SONGS LIKE "ASTEROID" AND "JENNA STAR" ARE REALLY GREAT SONGS, WITH NOTHING 80'S ABOUT THEM. WHEN I LISTENED TO WASTED, I THOUGHT I PUT ON A VELVET REVOLVER CD. THIS SONG IS POWERFUL WITH MARQ REALLY SHOWING HIS TALENT THAT HAS BEEN DORMANT FOR A WHILE. LET'S GET TO THE HIT SONG THAT EVIDENTLY IS BEING OVERLOOKED, "ROAD TO NOWHERE". THIS SONG SHOULD BE GETTING AIRPLAY ON STATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. CHAVIS RECORDS SIGNED THE 'BOYS FOR THIS ALBUM AND I CAN TELL YOU NOW, THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PULL NEEDED TO GET THESE SONGS THE AIRPLAY THEY DESERVE.
