The crack epidemic infiltrated the inner cities in the early 80s and for most the logic was simple; either you smoked crack or you sold crack. As crackheads walk the streets like zombies, Lil Nut is determined to get rich or die trying.

In the 10 Crack Commandments, author Erica Hilton has taken BIG's song and actually written a story around it. The only drawback is that with a chapter dedicated to each Commandment readers will be able to successfully predict what's about to occur within that chapter. The book as whole is a tale of a hood boy trying to come up during the crack era.

With the streets of Brooklyn as his backdrop Nelson aka Lil Nut would eventually evolve into Nut. Known for being a loose canon he earned his nickname as he took his share of bumps and bruises while making it to a top earner in the dope game. Even while attempting to follow the crack commandments he still fell into the typical pitfalls.

What helped to make the book an above average read was its realistic ending. Actually having an ending was refreshing with so many urban books being purposely left wide open for sequels. I also enjoyed Julie, Lil Nut's mother who did not bite her tongue. Although he earned millions in the drug game he would have been way more successful if he had only heeded his mother's advice.

The crack epidemic took the 80's by storm. Brooklyn New York was one of the hardest hit areas. Crackheads roam around like zombies, dealers are on every corner and people will kill for the ability to smoke crack or sell it.

Lil Nut gets into the drug game at around 14 and is determined to follow the "10 crack commandments" so he can stay on top. Lil Nut has no problem busting his gun when necessary and soon earns a rep as a no nonsense killer. Unfortunately for Nut, friends and family are always waiting to take his spot at the top and will stab him in the back to be the HNIC. In this novel you journey with Nut through the late 1980's and early 90's as he rises to the top by living and breathing the 10 crack commandments. But will Lil Nut stay on top? They say the drug game has no retirement plan...

This is my second book by Erica Hilton and once again I must give her 5 stars!! I loved it!!
