5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun and educational for all ages
Wow! My 9 year old learned the locations of every major country in Africa within a week of getting this game! The whole family loves it, including grandma (and teens, who are often harder to please). It does not cover some of the smaller African nations. But for learning where places like Eritrea and Togo are, it's not only a painless geography lesson, it's great fun...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but really only focuses on learning locations of African countries
I enjoy playing this game with my children age 8 and 10. They also like it by the way. I was a little disappointed that the only geography learned is the locations of the various African countries. I do feel confident playing this game will teach us those locations, but it would have been cool if we also learned a few tidbits about each country as well.

It does not cover some of the smaller African nations. But for learning where places like Eritrea and Togo are, it's not only a painless geography lesson, it's great fun. It's also sturdy, with no small pieces to lose (except the cards, which are thick and substantial, so they don't get lost easily. The game is also very easy to learn, so guests can join in right away. And games don't last long, so it's a great one to pull out when you only have 20 minutes.

10 Days in Africa is a terrific game for all ages - I have played it with people from 9 to 66 years old and every age in between and everyone can enjoy it. It's also a great way to learn the geography of Africa. We changed 1 rule and it works better. Our rule: When you start the game, you have to place the cards in your tray in the order in which you pick them up. I also tried 10 Days in Europe but the game does not work as well with that continent. I want to try 10 Days in US soon.

Our 8 year old had been studying Geography and specifically the continent of Africa. When I found this game last christmas I was excited and thought that we would get a few good hours of play out of it. The family plays still it often, there is not a boredom factor that inhibits the enjoyment and we have been known to play three games in a row at one sitting. We have all gotten more familiar with the continent as we plan our trips for ten day in Africa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplified Rules for faster play/younger players, August 20, 2010
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

A couple of my younger children were having trouble with this game, so we modified the rules a little.
As usual, each player will select 10 random tiles and place them in the tile holder. The order will not matter in this game, it just lets the player see the tiles without showing other players.
The rest of the cards are placed in a pile face down, the top card is drawn and placed face up as the play pile. On a player's turn he/she may do one of the following: play any country of the same color, play an airplane of the same color (which may be followed by a country of the same color, for the potential of playing two cards on that turn), play any country touching that country, play any country whose capital starts with the same letter as the capital of the country being played on, OR play an automobile followed by any country of the person's choice (basically a wild card). Players may NOT play an airplane of a different color off of another airplane. If a player is unable to do any of these, he/she must draw a card.
The winner is the first player to get rid of all their cards, or the person with the least number of cards if all the draw cards are gone and no more plays can be made.

Either with these rules or the original, a great way to recognize the countries in Africa.

I bought this game for a family birthday. We've played it over and over! To make it more challenging, have each player draw one tile (must be for a country) at random and place it in a designated location on the card holder. The player then cannot trade the card during the game and must use it in the position it was set. We've played the set card as the first card, the last card, and one of the middle cards. For older players, it's an especially good rule to increase the difficulty when playing with only 2 players. Overall we've really enjoyed this game! I bought 10 days in Asia for a friend for Christmas. Can't wait to play that one too!

Our family has a "long tradition" of buying games and playing them on Christmas day. I say "long," because my two brothers and I are now in our 30s. My older brother got us this one this year, and it was tons of fun. (We actually came up with an alternate version already--take out all the drive/fly cars for the first two card picks. The first card you pickup goes in Day 1. The second card goes in Day 10. You can not change out these cards for the rest of the game. Then mix in the drive/fly cards, and fill up the rest of your Days.) My son is almost 4, but I can see him having fun with this game in a few years. I think we need to put 10 Days in the USA on our list.

My whole family loves this game. Originally purchased for my son, my college aged-daughter and her friends played it until the wee hours of the morning. My husband and I play on a regular basis.

Ten Days in Africa is educational but above all it is fun. Strategy is the key to winning the game and maybe a little luck too. Every game is different. The only drawback is only four can play at a time, but there aren't a huge number of countries in Afica to support more than four players anyway.

We enjoy this game so much that we are buying the 10 days in Asia and my daughter who is studying Modern Europe wants the 10 days in Europe game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, top-of-the-line game, February 1, 2009

I can echo what all the other reviewers have said: this game is fun for pretty much everyone. It's easy to set up, easy to learn, and there is just the right combination of luck and skill. Also, you will find yourself watching the news and saying things like "Mauritania! That's the blue country up in northwest Africa...doesn't it border Mali?"

If you'd like a slightly harder game (once you've played 100+ times you might want some variety): instead of selecting each tile and choosing where to place it, simply place each tile in chronological order (day 1 through day 10) in the beginning of the game. Makes it a little tougher to win when you have 5 airplanes in a row to start the game. :) I've also heard about enterprising veteran players using three tile-holders each and playing "15 days in Africa". Haven't tried that one myself...yet.

This game is terrific and can be enjoyed by kids and adults too. It helps familiarize players with African geography, and is a lot of fun. The game does not require any prior knowledge about Africa. Check the cards when you open the game. The first one we purchased (at a store - not via Amazon) had some sort of manufacturing default and we had too many plane cards and almost no truck cards. Since then we've purchased this game for ourselves and as a gift with no problems. We've also played the 10 Days in Europe and 10 Days in USA versions which are good fun too.

My husband and I love games, and he got me this one for Christmas. Not only did we enjoy it, but so has everybody who has played it with us! Now friends and family are frustrated because the game is on back order everywhere, and we are afraid to lend ours out for fear that someone might steal it. :-) Seriously, though, this is a super-fun game that marries skill and luck, so both the strategists and the lucky will enjoy playing. Also, the facts about different countries of Africa written on the cards is excellent. Buy this game whenever it becomes available--you will not regret it!
