Much more compact than a standard-sized notebook and weighing just over 3 pounds, the Eee PC 1000HD is perfect for students toting to school or road warriors packing away to Wi-Fi hotspots. The Eee PC 1000HD also features a 900 MHz Ultra Low Voltage Intel Celeron M processor for a good blend of power and battery management, an 80 GB hard disk drive (HDD), 1 GB of RAM, 1.3-megapixel webcam integrated into the bezel above the LCD, 54g Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g/n), integrated Bluetooth connectivity, Secure Digital memory card slot, multiple USB ports, a VGA output for connecting to a monitor. It's also equipped with the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine for automatic detection and adjustments of CPU frequency, voltage, and LCD brightness to minimize system noise and power consumption to save up to 15 percent power consumption, or to maximize system performance according to individual needs.

The new Eee PC 1000HD has a customized, cutting-edge Infusion casing technology in Fine Ebony. Nicely light at just 51 ounces (3.2 pounds), the Eee PC 1000HD has a 10-inch wide TFT LCD with a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution (WXGA)--making it more comfortable on eyes than its predecessor. This netbook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. I buy this "netbook" to replace my Eee 701, and is really faster with better battery life, better screen and a great keyboard. I know that the 1000HA has the Intel Atom processor, but this Celeron M with the SuperHybrid engine is really great (The HD transfer performance is better in Powersaver because the multiplier for the FSB, so I use always in that mode). The 701 boot faster, especially with xandros linux, but I just use Hibernation in this machine and i can use it in about 25 seg, that's because I upgrade the ram to 2GB, so if you want a fast start from hibernation don't upgrade the ram, 1GB is sufficient for XP. The bluetooth stack is from Windcom, much better that the standard Xp bluetooth stack. I can use my Sonny Ericcson phone as a remote control. So far this is a great ultraportable computer, but if you don't need the bluetooth the 1000Ah is now a better buy, because the extra hour of battery live.

I needed this small machine for my work travels and I wanted to get away from the Microsoft trap. I use Apple at home, MS for work, but thought it was time to try Linux. I am very satisfied so far. Don be afraid to use this operating system, and this Asus netbook. Very nice!

Kickass battery. Very compact and light. Ample ports: USB, VGA, SD card, ethernet, audio. The built-in camera is not the greatest - but it is there and useful. The operating system looks a lot like windows, but you don't get Microsoft Office. Bluetooth and wi-fi are useful, but it's really slow at connecting to the wi-fi networks (it has taken me up to 10 minutes to get a glimpse of a connection). And oh, there are weird keyboard shortcuts to switch between languages and stuff that get in the way when you're typing.
Overall, the purchase is well worth it's modest price!
