5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent performance so far
I buy this "netbook" to replace my Eee 701, and is really faster with better battery life, better screen and a great keyboard. I know that the 1000HA has the Intel Atom processor, but this Celeron M with the SuperHybrid engine is really great (The HD transfer performance is better in Powersaver because the multiplier for the FSB, so I use always in that mode). The 701...

When I bought this product I called a computer person at Amazon via telephone and he verified that I could convert the operating system to XP home edition. When I received the product I could not load any thing on the computer via a external CD rom. I tried everything that the instructions told me and nothing worked. I finally called Asus Eee Tech

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent performance so far, November 2, 2008
This review is from: ASUS Eee PC 1000HD 10-Inch Netbook (900 MHz Intel Celeron M 353 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Linux, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony (Personal Computers)
The 701 boot faster, especially with xandros linux, but I just use Hibernation in this machine and i can use it in about 25 seg, that's because I upgrade the ram to 2GB, so if you want a fast start from hibernation don't upgrade the ram, 1GB is sufficient for XP. The bluetooth stack is from Windcom, much better that the standard Xp bluetooth stack. I can use my Sonny Ericcson phone as a remote control. So far this is a great ultraportable computer, but if you don't need the bluetooth the 1000Ah is now a better buy, because the extra hour of battery live.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice product...and you do not need Microsoft anymore, November 24, 2008
This review is from: ASUS Eee PC 1000HD 10-Inch Netbook (900 MHz Intel Celeron M 353 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Linux, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony (Personal Computers)
I needed this small machine for my work travels and I wanted to get away from the Microsoft trap. I use Apple at home, MS for work, but thought it was time to try Linux. I am very satisfied so far. Don be afraid to use this operating system, and this Asus netbook. Very nice!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mobility!, November 4, 2008
This review is from: ASUS Eee PC 1000HD 10-Inch Netbook (900 MHz Intel Celeron M 353 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, Linux, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony (Personal Computers)
Kickass battery. Very compact and light. Ample ports: USB, VGA, SD card, ethernet, audio. The built-in camera is not the greatest - but it is there and useful. The operating system looks a lot like windows, but you don't get Microsoft Office. Bluetooth and wi-fi are useful, but it's really slow at connecting to the wi-fi networks (it has taken me up to 10 minutes to get a glimpse of a connection). And oh, there are weird keyboard shortcuts to switch between languages and stuff that get in the way when you're typing.
Overall, the purchase is well worth it's modest price!

Pros: Fast, portable (small footprint), easy to use, ready to go right out of the box. I love it!

Cons: None that I've found

5.0 out of 5 stars great little netbook for features, portability, price, December 4, 2008

I bought this to replace a stolen laptop - my husband jokes that I lucked out, because this netbook is so much better than what was stolen from me.

Pluses: Windows XP (not the dreadful Vista - and no charge for "downgrading to XP" as you would pay at Dell). Full-sized reasonably intuitive keyboard to which it is easy to adjust. Very light weight - 3.2 lbs. fits in my briefcase and purse. Fits on the tray table in the airplane, even if some evil person reclines into your space! Long battery life; I've got about 5 hours with normal computing. My previous laptop was good for only less than 2 hours. It's incredibly inexpensive for all these features - great as an adjunct to a regular standalone computer. It doesn't have a disk or CD drive, but does come with several USB ports, so it's easy to hook up outside drives and - get this - there's even an SD-card reader for your camera when you're on the road.

My happiest purchase of 2008. I hate the geeky EEE logo on the front, but solved that problem by taping my business card over it.

Did I mention it's $400 cheaper than the laptop that was stolen from me?
