5.0 out of 5 stars Best McGuffey Lane album in years, August 31, 2010
This review is from: 10 (Audio CD)
McGuffey Lane's new CD "10" is the best thing they have recorded in a long time. Out of the ten songs that are on it, more than half of them would have fit nicely in either of their first two albums they made back in the early eighties. Although they have made several CD's since they have reformed ten years ago, it wasn't until original bass player Steve George Reis rejoined the band several years ago that the old McGuffey Lane sound really started to come back, both in concert and in recordings. With Reis on bass, that has allowed multi-talented Molly Pauken to play mandolin and other assorted string instruments. That has brought back that little touch of blue grass that has been a part of McGuffey Lane's country rock sound.
The new CD has ten songs on it and amongst the highlights are "I Am Who I Am," "It's a Good Day," and "Nobody But a Fool," all penned and sung by lead guitarist John Schwab. The best cut on the album, from a sentimental point of view, is Reis's great traveling tune "Song for the Road," which the band has been doing in concert since back in the day but had never recorded before. Two songs that will be concert favorites off the disk are a duet between Schwab and Reis about refusing to grow old "I Ain't Given' in to Getting' Old," and "Bartender," a vacation song which sounds like the sequel to "I'm in Jamaica," which was on their 1984 album "Day by Day."
McGuffey Lane will be traveling throughout Ohio and the Midwest in support of "10". For more information on their shows visit [...].

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem of a Band, October 30, 2010

This review is from: 10 (Audio CD)
I was first turned on to McGuffey Lane back in the 80's by a friend of mine who had an old cassette tape of the band. That tape has long worn out and I came across this album through Amazon and thought I would give it a try. Man am I glad I did. Great ablum from a band I had long forgot about and have since started ordering their catalog one disc at a time. Country Rock band. This album is better than most stuff on the country charts today.

5.0 out of 5 stars McGuffey Lane 10 - A Perfect 10!!!, September 16, 2010
This review is from: 10 (Audio CD)
This new CD from McGuffey Lane is hot! I saw them dozens of times here in Ohio years ago, I still have the first two excellent albums on vinyl. Came home to Ohio for a long stay and was pleased to hear they were still playing and releasing top-notch music. Saw them live and picked up this new CD at the show. LOVED IT from the first play! The recording is great quality, you can hear all the instruments in perfect balance - guitars, pedal steel, mando, bass, drums, banjo, keys, harmonica and vocals - crisp, stellar phonics!

The passionate lyrics are sometimes tounge-in-cheek, sometimes full of sincere emotion - and all of them tell a story, give a message of love, hope, lessons in life and reasons to believe in who you are, what is really important in life and how to keep hold of the dreams that you hold in your heart.

I highly suggest this CD to those who know that band, and implore those who haven't heard them and are searching for more than the run-of-the-mill standard southern-rock that is spoon fed to us from the major labels and stations. Every song is memorable and catchy, all the playing is high caliber and the uplifting mood this CD instills is worth way more than the price of the disc.

I give McGuffey Lane's 10 a perfect score of 10 - this deserves your attention and deserves national airplay. It is so great to see and hear them keeping the dream alive!
