About the Author

Z.C. Smith spent over 20 yearswith the Wichita Police Department before retiring in 2002.¿ During his tenure, he was a street cop, aninvestigator (Narcotics/Vice, case detective, gang detective, night [felony]detective) and supervisor.¿ Hisdepartment is as contemporary and diverse as any other big city police forcebut with a rich and colorful past all its own.Established in the 1870's, Wichitabecame known as one of the rowdiest towns in the west, rivaling such places as Dodge City, Kansasand Tombstone, Arizona.¿¿ It also gave rise to one of the most famouspolicemen in American history.¿ Remnantsof the past still exist today and who better to write a story of a policeofficer caught in a warp between modern law enforcement and the untamed westthan one who lived and worked on one side of it.Z.C. is a life-long Kansasresident and continues to make his home in the Wichitaarea along with his wife of over 20 years and teenaged daughter.¿ He's currently working towards a degree inComputer Science while cultivating his interest in writing fiction based uponactual police drama.
