Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Elaborate scrapbook pages can often take hours to arrange, but reasonably attractive ones really can be assembled pretty quickly, as Raquel Boehme demonstrates in 10-Minute Scrapbook Pages. With loads of stickers, some markers, assorted die-cuts, and the occasional decorative-edge ruler, Boehme creates dozens of pages devoted to subjects like kids at play and at school, family outings, holiday celebrations, birthdays, and new babies. Most of the designs consist of simple embellishments bordering plain white pages, sometimes shown with the author's own photos for placement suggestions and sometimes without any photos in place. None of the designs are terribly exciting, and a whole albumful of such pages might become monotonous, but their ease of assembly does increase their appeal--particularly for beginners or as quick additions to a collection of more time-consuming and varied pages. -- Amy Handy

3.0 out of 5 stars For Beginners Only, October 8, 2000

A few cute ideas, but like another reviewer mentioned, some of the ideas are very similar to Creative Memories and look like direct adaptations from the CM idea books. Most of the concepts are repeated thoughout the book with just a few sticker & title changes, and I noticed at least 2 ideas repeated 2-3 times in the book (identical).

The format of the book is nice with the layouts being displayed in a nice format with large pictures so you can see all the details. The materials listings are lacking any detail. Most read, Materials Used: Marker, stickers, decorative ruler. What COLOR marker? Which stickers?

On a personal note, there are many beautiful photos used for the layouts, but I noticed no attempt to match the color scheme of the layout with that of the pictures, nor do some of the designs go with the general theme of the pictures. There are some great beach photos on a layout titled "PARTY". Huh? Or the excellent black & white heritage photo with the title "Over the Hill" and dancing skeleton stickers. I think a little more thought could have gone into coordinating layouts more appropriate to these photos. It would also be better in a spiral bound format rather than a hardcover so that users can leave the book open while copying the page.

If you are a long time scrapper or fan of CM idea books, then don't bother. There is nothing really innovative or "fresh" in this book. This might be good for a beginner or someone who is a fan of sticker art.

As negative as my review sounds, these are just my honest thoughts and impressions. I still give it 3 stars for the few ideas I did get and because of the large photos of the layouts, but there's definitely room to improve.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed In This One, August 28, 2001

I was disappointed in this book. Although the author has some cute ideas on combining stickers, there isn't a lot new here. I didn't need to read the introduction to know this had to be someone who worked with the Creative Memories philosophy: use lots of pictures on white pages and get those albums done! A lot of folks love CM, and I see its advantages. However, I prefer more varied backgrounds and didn't expect this to be CM slanted. It's a well made book with lots of color but not at all what I hoped for.

3.0 out of 5 stars Delivers ideas for quick pages in one page, February 26, 2001
By
This book is basically 125 pages of pictures with a scant five pages at the beginning of instructions, suggestions, and mostly a quickie lesson on basic scrapbooking. The layouts in this book use a few simple tools (markers, rulers, stickers, die cuts), and use them over and over. While the ideas probably do take about ten minutes to plan (how long does it take YOU to think of a cliche to title your page with?), the timeframe for the pages really shows.

However, what the author does with her scant few tools is wonderful, and she puts together some really nice-looking sticker collages. I was expecting more than just stickers & die-cuts, but I got a few ideas from the book.

If it sounds at all interesting, I would suggest you check it out at the library, flip through it to get some ideas, and then return it to the library. Spend your $25 on stuff for your scrapbook.
