Basic Training: This segment is basically "Beginner Kickboxing"-a good starting point for people who haven't had much kickboxing experience; however, I still found it a great workout even though I have been doing kickboxing for about a year. While teaching you the basic punches and kicks that will be used throughout the DVD, Keli keeps your heart rate up with faux jump roping, boxer shuffle, and other cardio moves.
Ultimate Buns and Thighs: This segment incorporates kicks into a lower body workout that includes lunges and plies. The method Keli uses to teach kicking is quite simple and effective. This was a good workout. I didn't feel the burn as much as in the TamiLee Webb "I Want Those Buns!" workout, but then Keli doesn't use quite so much repetition and it therefore wasn't as hard on my knees.
Arm and Shoulder Sculptor: Here we switch to an upper body focus using light hand weights to get more benefit out of the punches. I started with the 5-pound hand weights I use for at-home upper-body work, but had to switch to 2-pounders to keep up with Keli's fast pace. She also does some quick punching sequences in between weight segments. I really liked this workout and, from the look of Keli's upper body, I'd say she knows what she's doing!Read more ›
I started doing this video about a year ago, as one of the stereotypical weekend warriors who had every intention of working out 4 times a week but would get sidetracked by shiny things on the floor. I figured whatever damage I could do in ten minutes would be a good start. I mean, that's ten minutes more than nothing right?
Ooooooooh my gawd.
The first time I did this video, I started with the arms/shoulders portion because my legs were, well, horrible and chubby and weak. I thought that some punches couldn't hurt me, because I'm tough or whatever. Within 3 minutes, I was pouring sweat. After five minutes, I turned it off, went and took a shower, and went back to playing video games with numb arms. I lost every game I attempted that night.
About a week later, I tried again. I had one of those "come to jesus" moments in front of the mirror and decided that if I couldn't do the full ten, well then that was just sad. So I turned the AC on full blast, threw a bottle of water in the freezer for afterwards, and powered through the arms routine. I thought I was going to die.
The next time (another week later) I did it again. It was easier but I was still drenched at the end. I upped it to twice a week. Then three times. Then I added another ten minutes. Wash rinse repeat until I was doing three workouts from this DVD with wrist and ankle weights on three times a week, and running (WHAT?! YES - RUNNING! WITHOUT ANYTHING LETHAL CHASING ME!!) two miles four times a week. I've lost 85 pounds in a year. I still have about 20 more I could lose, but yknow what? I'm pretty dang cute these days...

The instructer in it is not annoying (big factor for me- I want to feel like she is working, too!) and I tried Billy Blanks tonight, making it through more easily than this video. He is ok, but I am here, looking for a new Keli video as I don't find him intense enough after my 4th child and this video I have done enough to do it in my sleep! Keli is the way to go after 3 yrs of kickboxing videos (hey, you try to get to a gym with all of these munchkins :)
She gets the weight off and makes me feel strong.
This one is a definite keeper!
Cueing: The instructor is beyond reproach in her cueing in my opinion. I'm shocked to see someone else say otherwise because that's my biggest beef in a workout dvd...I can't even do most of the Firm videos without getting tripped up. However, this one offered great cueing and I kept up easily.
Music: The music was good and went to the exact tempo of the moves.
energy: The energy was good and it was fast paced. There was only one participant in the instruction rather than an instructor with a group. I tend to like a group for visual interest but this was no problem at all.
Caloric expenditure measurement: That said, I wear a bodybugg (aka gowear fit) every day to measure my daily caloric expenditure. Because of this, I also know the exact number of calories every workout burns. I only mention this so you know it was measured not in perceived exertion but scientifically. and, quite frankly, although it was a great workout, it burned the same number of calories in 10 minutes that most of my other fitness dvds did; the exact number burned in my Biggest Loser dvds for example. If you have very little time and need to squeeze in a workout it is better than nothing, but it shouldn't be expected that you'll burn as much in ten minutes equal to a 20 or 30 minute dvd. The 10 minute solution videos are very intense. You might think "oh its only 10 mintues so how many calories can you burn?" Based on the ones I have done, a lot. I don't have an exact number for you, but the ones like 5 day get fit mix, knock out body workout, and hot body boot camp... Read More
