Mix and match your way to kicking butt!,

This review is from: 10 Minute Solution - Kickbox Bootcamp (DVD)
As with the other DVDs in the 10-Minute Solution series, Kickbox Bootcamp features five 10-minute workouts. You can pick one for a quick 10-mintue blast, follow all five in sequence for a killer 50-minute routine, or mix and match them as you wish to get just the workout you want. The 10-Minute Solution series is all about flexibility-one reason why I own several DVDs of the series. The instructor on this DVD is Keli Roberts. The five workouts, all with some element of kickboxing flavor, are:
Basic Training: This segment is basically "Beginner Kickboxing"-a good starting point for people who haven't had much kickboxing experience; however, I still found it a great workout even though I have been doing kickboxing for about a year. While teaching you the basic punches and kicks that will be used throughout the DVD, Keli keeps your heart rate up with faux jump roping, boxer shuffle, and other cardio moves. Ultimate Buns and Thighs: This segment incorporates kicks into a lower body workout that includes lunges and plies. The method Keli uses to teach kicking is quite simple and effective. This was a good workout. I didn't feel the burn as much as in the TamiLee Webb "I Want Those Buns!" workout, but then Keli doesn't use quite so much repetition and it therefore wasn't as hard on my knees. Arm and Shoulder Sculptor: Here we switch to an upper body focus using light hand weights to get more benefit out of the punches. I started with the 5-pound hand weights I use for at-home upper-body work, but had to switch to 2-pounders to keep up with Keli's fast pace. She also does some quick punching sequences in between weight segments. I really liked this workout and, from the look of Keli's upper body, I'd say she knows what she's doing! Fat-Burning Blast: This segment definitely puts the "Bootcamp" in the title. It begins (after the warm up) with a very difficult sequence-going from a stand to a squat to a plank (push-up position) to a squat to a stand over and over (and incorporating other-even more challenging-moves as the sequence progresses). Once you get past that sequence, there is a series of lateral agility drills-sliding, jumping and stepping side to side. By far, my least favorite of the DVD. Washboard Abs: Keli definitely doesn't depend just on crunches here-she does planks, side work and a few Pilates moves as well as crunches to work out your obliques, upper and lower abs. This is a good workout, and I didn't make it all the way through on the first try. That's a good sign, though, because it gives me something to work toward. Pros: 1. Keli doesn't use the same tired moves as every one else-despite the MANY exercise DVDs I've tried, there were many new moves on this DVD and I loved that. 2. The warm-ups and cool-downs, while brief, are excellent and tailored to each workout. Cons: 1. There is almost no color contrast on the menu, so figuring out where the "cursor" is and which button you're selecting is very difficult. I found this highly annoying.

Very effective!,
This review is from: 10 Minute Solution - Kickbox Bootcamp (DVD)
I like to do this DVD all the way through, which amounts to about 54 minutes, I think. It is a very thorough total body workout, and with its kickboxing theme, is very good for days when you feel stressed. The instructor is great. She is motivating without being overly perky and she doesn't constantly ramble. She explains each move and you start out each routine very slowly, then pick up the pace. The only thing I wasn't sure about was using the handweights while slowly throwing punches. I've always been taught that's a no-no. The cardio movements also use quite a bit of space, so keep that in mind. I found myself having to make smaller movements so as not to run into walls, which I'm sure cut down on the effectiveness. Still overall a very good DVD, a very good purchase!

Challenging and Effective Workout!,

I've completed 3 segments of this workout so far and was very impressed. The instructor is GREAT, easy to follow, and demonstrates good form. I really like that she explains each move slowly at first before picking up the pace. My heartrate was up, and I was sore the next day! Another great workout from the 10 Minute Solution series. Excellent production quality, good set and music. Highly recommended.

After four babies!,

This review is from: 10 Minute Solution - Kickbox Bootcamp (DVD)
I am not an exercising expert, but I began with this video 3 years ago after my third child and found it to be intense! I worked out at least four or five days/wk and it took the weight off, kept me interested enough and taught me form and technique.
The instructer in it is not annoying (big factor for me- I want to feel like she is working, too!) and I tried Billy Blanks tonight, making it through more easily than this video. He is ok, but I am here, looking for a new Keli video as I don't find him intense enough after my 4th child and this video I have done enough to do it in my sleep! Keli is the way to go after 3 yrs of kickboxing videos (hey, you try to get to a gym with all of these munchkins :) She gets the weight off and makes me feel strong.

I love this DVD. This one is not for light exercise days, but in my case, I am looking to up the intensity of my workouts so it is perfect. The exercises are not what you see typically see in workouts. You use the weights with kickboxing moves in both the arms and legs sections. Also, the abs section is more stabilization exercises than sit-ups. They are hard to do, but I am finding that they are more effective right now than all of the same old crunches I do all of the time. The Fat Burner segment is very tough, but I know that if that won't jumpstart me out of my plateau, then I don't know what will.
I was familiar with Keli Roberts from the Cher videos and still use those videos now. Then recently, I've been doing her 10 minute QuickFix Pilates and Stability Ball workouts. I can see where her reputation as a celebrity trainer comes from, as almost all of her workouts are worthwhile so far.

Fantastic Instructor,

Keli Roberts is a no nonsense instructor who gets results. I have several of her other dvds and she's nothing short of great. This dvd only got four stars because it's not quite long enough to shed serious weight if you're someone who needs to do so, however she's motivating and the workouts that are here, while short, are energising and toning if you don't need so much work. I would only recommend this as an extra dvd for quick workouts, but otherwise concentrate on longer programmes.

Really Good Workout,

Here is how I use this DVD: I use certain segments of it to mix and match with other short bootcamp or kickboxing workouts to create a longer overall workout or one more specifically cardio focussed. There are five segments - one for lower body, upper body, abs, and 2 cardio. Doing the whole DVD will give you a good full body workout, but I like to do at least 40-45 minutes of cardio, so I will throw in another 20 minute workout (usually Denise Austins 20 minute segments form her Boot Camp dvd or one of the 20 minute segments from the Caribbean Workout Kickboking DVD) along with a few of these 10 minute segments.
Keli Roberts is an excellent instructor. Her description of demonstration of proper form is exceeeltn as is her cueing. If there was a bit more cardio, I would have given it 5 stars.

Recommended for intermediate/advanced.,

Instructor is very energetic and gives good verbal cues.
I found this workout to be tough overall; beginners will have a difficult time keeping up with the tempo of the moves or doing several segments at a time. Even though I think this workout is more appropriate for intermediate-advanced, I would still recommend this for beginners if they are willing to do the motions slower or with smaller range of motion, because at least it is a DVD that can grow with you...as you get stronger you can use the workout programing feature to do more sections at a time. The "Basic Training" & "Arms" section had the most kick/boxing style moves, the rest of the sections were mostly standard exercises or jumping around "bootcamp" style. BASIC TRAINING: I thought this would be a cheesy warm up, but it is actually is a workout that worked up a sweat. In this segment she introduces the basic types of punches and kicks, but does it in a way where you keep your whole body jumping around constantly for the 10minutes, so my heart was pumping and surprisingly felt pretty tired afterwards. LEGS This is a tough workout. She does several of the same moves in a row but varies the routine by changing the depth to which you do each movement, and the last few variations are done with a kick included: squats, front lunges, lateral lunges, squats, roundhouse kick. This segment is very hard on the knees (& back) - if you have bad knees or are out of shape you might want to skip this section or just do very small range of motion. ARMS Starts with a short warm-up section with legs doing a step-touch and arms swinging/stretching in various directions. Then she does the following with weights: Triceps kickback(with mini-lunges), shoulder extension, bicep curls(with mini-lunges). Karate punch forward, Jab & cross. Hook & Cross. (beginners shouldn't use weights on the punching moves, cause you could hurt your shoulder if you're not used to the motions) FAT BURNING BLAST This is a bootcamp style workout with a combo of jump downs, lunges, squats, push ups, leg lifts while in push up position, hopping around, side punches, Ends with 1 min of stretches. ABS Overall the exercises are great, but I felt there weren't enough reps to really make the muscles tired. It starts with a cheesy back stretch. Then goes into a fantastic "Elbow Plank Sequence": *Lay on side propped on elbow and with bottom knee bent on the floor, then kick out top leg while lifting body off the floor (this really burns the sides of your butt). *Arms on elbows with body in knee-push-up like position, then straighten legs off the floor. Then side oblique crunch, regular crunch, reverse crunch. Then double & single leg stretch (pilates style move that works lower abs and hip flexors) General body stretching.

This one is great for when you feel like not doing anything at all. Just force yourself to slide this in your DVD player. In no time you are eased into a great safe invigorating workout that you will be thankful for later!
The 10 minutes is a great idea for people like me who dread working out. Guaranteed you will want to go for more. Kelli Roberts is a class A instructer with a no nonsense approach and great form.

Easy Instructions, Incredible Results,

If there is one workout video you MUST have in your collection, this is it.
Last summer I didn't have a gym membership. Instead, I faithfully did four of these 10 minute workout sessions a day. This video got me into the best shape of my life! I lost nearly 10 pounds and gained "four pack" abs. If you use this video regularly, you will see results FAST. This workout will give you incredible definition in your arms, legs (nothing has ever worked like this for my thigh area)and abs. Honestly, I'm not very good with choreography but these instructions are very simple and easy to follow. I give this video my HIGHEST recommendation. |
