Don't miss this one...,

Somehow, I missed reading Dr. Wayne Dyer's TEN SECRETSFOR SUCCESS when it first came out a few years ago . . . however, I'm glad I was able to find it now because it contained many powerful ideas for changing my life--and yours, too, in most likelihood) . . . though a mere 158 pages with a lot of white space, I'd still give it my highest recommendation for either personal reading or gift giving. The ideas may seem pretty basic, but if you read the accompanying The First Secret: The Second Secret: The Third Secret: The Fourth Secret: The Fifth Secret: The Sixth Secret: The Seventh Secret: The Eighth Secret: The Ninth Secret: The Tenth Secret: I also liked how Dyer used a relatively popular technique of Any path is only a path, and there is no affront to oneself Any man can make mistakes, but only an idiot persists The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts. Take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature.--Marcus Aurelius God does not command that we do great things, only little things Also, there were many other memorable passages in the In all of your relationships, if you can love someone enough to allow them to be exactly what they choose to be--without any expectations or attachments from you--you'll know true peace in your lifetime. True love means you love a person for what they are, not for what you think they should be. This is an open mind-and an absence of attachment. What is your passion? What stirs your soul and makes you feel like you're totally in harmony with why you showed up here in the first place? Know this for certain: Whatever it may be, you can make a living doing it and simultaneously provide a service for others. I guarantee it. The willingness and ability to live fully in the now eludes many

If you take a minute to go through my other Amazon.com book reviews you may find surprising that I'm reviewing this book and actually giving it the maximum rate. But I was certainly caught by surprise one Sunday evening, already preparing for the long week ahead, when I turned on the TV and saw Dr. Dyer on PBS right on the beginning of his 10 Secrets special. I was riveted to my recliner and even found myself writing down the ten secrets as they were presented.Regrettably I didn't make the pledge that night that would help funding my local PBS station and as an appreciation gift would give me a copy of the book. But I kept thinking about the ten secrets and ended up buying the book. It took me just a few hours to read it for the first time and it was a very pleasant reading experience. Now I'm going trough it at a much slower pace taking time to reflect on every secret and trying to apply it to my daily life. Dr. Dyer transmits on the book the same serenity I had seen on TV. The book itself transmits good feelings with its cushion cover, pastel tone pages, and bugs and birds drawings. I tend to disagree with the title of ten secrets for success and inner peace. I would get rid of the success part since at least on my point of view success reminds me of the rat race, greediness, competition and getting rich at all costs. I would be happy only with the inner peace. I don't share Dr. Dyer religious beliefs but it doesn't really get in the way of enjoying this book. It's certainly a great gift for just about anybody and a great book to read over and over again. 5 well deserved stars. Leonardo Alves, Tucson Arizona, July 2002

A ten star gem of a book......,

Ever come across a book that you think "Geez I wish I had known about this before ...it would have been a perfect gift for _____"? Well, that's how I felt when the book was sent to me. It is one of those small gems that you find yourself going back to weeks, months and even years later and re-reading and going Ahhhhhhh yes....... Over and over again. Now I am not going to tell you what each of the sections is about or what they each say, because why buy the book if you have all its secrets? I will tell you that The First Secret about having a mind that is open to everything was great as was the Eighth Secret which is about treating oneself as if we already are what we want. I have for years said "Be what you seek" and this section is about that. I also liked the Tenth Secret which is about wisdom is avoiding thoughts that hold us back. But for some reason I LOVED the Fourth which was about embracing silence. I mean I LOVED the Fourth secret! This is a subject near and dear to my heart because it reminded me of how my mentors over the years have reminded me that when I pray I need to be still so I can hear the answer. Or that there are people who are never lonely alone, yet others who are lonely amongst many. I would even suggest that section Four is worth the books price all by itself. Silence has been my friends during the valleys as well as the mountain tops of my life. And yet, so many people run from silence. And why is the question. Silence is a gift not to be feared. I often thing of silence as Gods "white air." White air is what I call the sound that people use to block out noise. It can be something like the CD that plays the sound of an ocean or bubbly brook. Silence is like a nap ... while still awake. And Dr Dyer does a superb job of explaining what silence is and does to ones mind, body and spirit. So if you are ....or you know of someone who is harried and stressed and who always has to have the TV, radio, CD, on ...buy the book!!! It is less expensive than a doctors visit. I also loved the books cover which is so comfortable in my hands. I don't know who did or chose the art for the book but it's visually appealing as well. And the book is such a nice size. I am an avid book buyer and reader and a book can be something I may wish to read but if the size is uncomfortable I am apt to check other books out instead ... and I do like covers that aren't cluttered.

An incredibly insightful book that is deceptively profound because it is so simply written.Dr. Wayne Dyer has obviously thought through and meditated through every single one of these 10 secrets, such that, he is able to present each secret, in a way, that is easy to understand, easy to grasp, easy to apply, without sounding trite or plodding, while inspiring and encouraging. The overall color scheme of the book, the font types, the layouts, all lend to the peacefulness and the uplifting mood of the book. It is simply not a difficult book to read in one short sitting. However, because of its wonderful implications as you read it, you will most definitely want to return to it again and again. This is most definitely Dr. Dyer's best book.

Dr. Wayne Dyer has made significant contributions to advancing the course of peaceful, full lives through some wonderful writings. "10 Secrets" may be one of his best works to date. The power of this book lies not in the words, perse, for many of his thoughts in this book are buried in others of his treasures. The power of this book lies in combining these thoughts together towards a powerful result. Each secret is loaded with wise information, and each one is both independent but related on the others. Reading this book is like looking at a masterful weaving, you can admire the handiwork up close, as well as stepping far back and taking in the whole view. Another wonderful thing about this is in it's brevity. This is an easy book to sit down and read in one setting. The power is, however, to not read this book quickly, but deliberately. Dyer has so many important thoughts in each secret that it takes time and effort to ponder the depth of his sentences. I would advise you to read this book at least twice. First, read it all the way through. Upon that initial reading, you'll feel a tremendous, immediate sense of peace. Then, go back for further study, read, memorize, learn. It's impossible for me to state my favorite secret, for all of them really lend themselves to self-empowerment, and allowing me to take control of my life as I never thought possible. The book's style lends itself to looking like a book you'd just give someone for a gift. Look beyond that, and look for the honesty deep inside. Buy this book for yourself, and for any friend you know needs a little peace in their lives. It's worth the journey!

One of Wayne's Best,

This review is from: 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace (Hardcover)
I love Wayne Dyer but I have to admit that some of his newer stuff isn't so easy for me to apply. However, once I read this book, I found that I could apply the techniques right away and get them working for me in my life. This is a refreshingly simply and easy to read book with all of life's answers. And, as always, Mr. Dyer creates that type of ambiance that makes you feel like everything's okay and that life is perfect. I highly recommend this book, especially if you've had trouble with other books he's written. This definitely puts it all into perspective in a very simple, well-written way.

I find that a lot of Wayne Dyer's material gets very intense and you can get lost if you're not 100% focused when reading. However, this book was "lighter" in the sense that it flowed well, was easy to understand and relate to, and, most importantly, had some newly presented materials that Mr. Dyer's work has been lacking in the past few years. I recommend this book over all of his other titles.

Old Truths Explained Simply, Shortly, and Eloquently,
This review is from: 10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace (Hardcover)
10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace is a beautifully written and illustrated book that gives you exactly what the title states. The book itself makes a great gift. It's got beautiful artwork, ancient quotations interspersed throughout the text, and enlightening poetry as well. Surrounding the ancient wisdom are 11 short chapters portraying Wayne's wise and peaceful message. He writes with simplicity. And although the book is probably meant to be read in one sitting, you can turn to any page, any time, and absorb some of its comforting wisdom. Dyer writes of the importance of meditation, but I don't think he realized that reading his book is a meditation in itself! His ten secrets are nothing new. But Dyer's extraordinary writing makes them feel fresh. My favorite "secrets" of his are, " Give Up Your Personal History," and "There Are No Justified Resentments." He acknowledges the existence of your past, but he persuasively reminds the reader that the past has no logical connection to the present. In a similar vein, resentments are created in your mind, since all relationships are not concrete objects, but ideas held within the mind. Hard truths to acknowledge - but coming to live Wayne's wisdom can bring inner peace like nothing else can. He also emphasizes the need for silence, living out your life's mission (a.k.a., "your music"), and the miracles made possible by having an open mind. For those of a more rational nature, Dyer's eastern wisdom actually parallels many of the ideas found in western psychology. For example, a famous quote often cited by Wayne is, "As you think, so shall you be." The essence of all of Wayne Dyer's materials can be summed up in those seven words. But in a similar vein, cognitive behavioral therapy from the west can be summed up by those words as well. By taking charge of your thoughts, you can have much greater control over your emotions. Although Wayne Dyer and other spiritually minded people may sound much different than western psychologists, their insights are often the exact same thing dressed in different clothing. Wayne Dyer has undergone a huge evolution in his thinking. His earlier works focus on life's issues in a more concrete manner. This recent book, however, reflects an attitude of higher consciousness, spirituality, and wisdom. The "secrets" don't tell you how to live, but instead direct you to find your own path - and follow it. And from the outset, Dyer humbly tells you to "discard" the ideas that don't work for you, allowing your own experience to judge the merit of his messages. The book may be short and simple, but by living the insights taught here, you will know inner peace.

Spiritual enlightenment,

Dr. Dyer offers a wonderful prescription for success and inner peace in this timeless book. I agree with him that embracing silence in meditation allows us to understand where we are coming from. The most profound concept for me in this book is to be open to everything and attached to nothing. Knowing how to let go of what is out of our control is an ingredient for inner peace. I recommend another book called Optimal Thinking: How To Be Your Best Self which showed me how to make and keep the commitment to be my best in any and every circumstance. Optimal Thinking is the language of our best self. Both of these books are timeless, universal classics.
