As a practicing psychologist, I've read a lot of self-help books on stress reduction. This one is different and better. Cutting edge medicine, cognitive therapy and practical coping strategies are combined into concise chapters that do not have to be read in sequence. The questionnaires give you a quick way to increase your self knowledge, and the strategies for coping are practical and time-efficient. These are no case anecdotes and stories, which as far as I'm concerned are simply page fillers--this book says it all in succinct, clear writing that doesn't talk down to the reader. I like how Dr. Wheeler explains the difference between stress and strain, and offers many different techniques for understanding and handling pressure, rejection, anxiety or loss. But her work addresses something bigger: not just what you need to get away from, but what you need to go toward. It's not just damage control, it's about finding your best self in the midst of your fast-paced, demanding life. This book is wisdom distilled into something you can make good use of even at a traffic light.

The trouble with stress is that you don't have time to learn coping skills when you are truly stretched beyond your limits. That's why Dr. Wheeler's book can be so helpful. Once I got past the Type A compulsion to read the entire book cover to cover, I realized I could have been nibbling at my troubles bit by bit. "10 Simple Solutions" is written in such a way that you can pick and choose the advice you need -- and the book is packed with useful, proven information. I recommend it.

Dr. Wheeler has written a neat little book that is big on helping to handle stress. She displays her knowledge and thoughts in ways that are easy to understand. Her book contains many "Ah-ha"'s. Her book does not need to be read cover-to-cover but one can open to any chapter and find helpful suggestions and exercises. It is a thoughtful gift as well as a useful tool.

A very comprehensive book analyzing the causes of stress. Especially good is the chapter on nutrition but all of the material presented is worth multiple re-reads. Very well organzed and easy to follow. There are some good quizes to help the reader pinpoint his or her own issues.

Dr. Wheeler changed my life. The exercises and conclusions at the end of the chapters bring to life the content contained within in a meaningful and thoughtful way. Who couldn't use a little less stress in their lives? I look forward to the next and all works of Dr. Wheeler.

I don't know exactly how simple any solution is for anyone to employ; however, I thought this book introduced some viable solutions aside from the standard techniques of breathing, meditating, visualizing...techniques. I will be conducting a class on relaxation and stress management and have found that this book adds to my original ideas for the class. I would highly recommend this book for that reason and also because it is short and to-the-point.
