Book Description

June 25, 2007 1562864637 978-1562864637
Project management is not easy. It is a complicated, multilayered matter, whether you manage projects for your entire company, for a department, or for yourself. And using a project management software program isn't enough, as many project managers painfully learn. This book takes you through 10 steps that, if followed correctly, will lead to successful project management. You'll learn how to determine whether something is a project or a task, build a business case, define the scope of the project, weigh the risks and constraints, collaborate, create a project blueprint, determine the tangible and intangible components of a project, complete a project, and then review the lessons learned. At every step, author Lou Russell presents the key questions to ask as well as the potential risks of skipping certain aspects of project management. The accompanying digital materials (available via download) include exercises, tips, tools, and easy-to-use interactive learning aids for trainers and for anyone interested in improving their project management skills.

Editorial Reviews

Review

10 Steps to Successful Project Management should be required reading for every manager. The steps in this book can be applied immediately. Nothing is more needed than a tremendous book on project management. --Marla Holman, Training Director, Western States Envelope & Label

As the old saying goes, the only real constant in today's world is change. I am constantly evaluating priorities, relevance, and balancing projects and initiatives in my personal life, spiritual life, and business life. Lou's new book offers an insightful roadmap to help you determine both the salient positive signs of project success and how to avoid the potential land mines found in any project. --Mark A. Titus, President, Eastern Division, Time Warner Telecom

Filled with pointers, tools, checklists, worksheets, and including a practical work process model, 10 Steps to Successful Project Management is a guide for anyone charged with managing a project. Lou shares her many years of experience with both wit and a dose of hard-nosed reality. Her wit includes a fanciful retelling of the three little pigs fairy tale from the perspective of a project manager. As for the reality check, she is just as straight forward about avoiding the many "lurking landmines" resident in any project as she is about the unfortunate results if you skip a step in her process. This is a book that deserves a special place on your bookshelf. --Elaine Biech, Author, Training for Dummies and The Business of Consulting and President of ebb associates inc.

After reading (or fumbling through) many other books on project management, I have to say that "10 Steps to Successful Project Management" is the easiest to digest and most logical in terms of presentation. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Pratical Approach to Project Management July 30, 2009
Format:Paperback
Written by Dave McCowan
Lou Russell takes a practical approach to project management. Project management is a complex, highly developed field. Lou demonstrates her mastery of project management through this book. I appreciate Lou taking the science of project management and presenting it in layman language.

I wish this book would have been available when I wrote a college level introduction to project management for adult learners. It was difficult to find a book that took a practical approach to project management. This book would have provided the students with a user-friendly approach to project management.

This book helpes me better use the complex concepts of project management. I have used these 10 steps in my personal and professional life.
