5.0 out of 5 stars VERSATILE THROUGFH THE AGES!
At age one, my son was stacking two blocks and learning colors with these. At age two, he was counting as he stacked and learning to build higher and higher. Now at age three, he has mastered building tunnels big enough for his medium sized cars, building "zoos" and "farms" for his plastic animals, and adding ramps made of hard books! These blocks have...

3.0 out of 5 stars not as good as the original
After my 1 year old played with some Legos at a friends, we decided to get our daughter her own set. Since the store was out of Legos, my husband decided these would be the same. Wrong! These are much larger and seem to be harder for our child to put together. They also don't stay attached as well as Legos. Yes, the colors are nice, but after 1 day my husband admitted...

These blocks have ended up in the sandbox, in the tub, everywhere, and they still look great! We even bought him a second set so he could build even bigger buildings, and cleaning up is a snap when you turn it into a game of who can fill the bag faster. They are lightweight and snap together much more easily than the Duplo blocks (although he loves those too), plus they clean up nicely in the top rack of your dishwasher if a child-who-shall-remain-nameless leaves a few under a bush in the backyard for months on end, hee-hee-hee. Well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars The simplest toys are the best!, December 21, 2000

My 14 month old loves these blocks! It's the main thing that he plays with. Although he only builds them up to 3 blocks high before he destroys his creation, it provides him with hours of entertainment each day. In fact, "block" was just recently added to his 6-word vocabulary. It's the only toy he asks for by name! We originally bought these blocks for his older sister when she turned 2 years old. They were not on her favorites list until recently (she's 3 now). I think that it's just one of those differences between boys and girls. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this product. The blocks are big -- so, no chocking hazard. I also suggest that you go ahead and buy the large pack of blocks. That way, as they grow older and their skills increase, they will have enough blocks to build almost anything. The large pack also provides enough blocks to share with other children without the arguments.

5.0 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN LEGOS FOR SMALL CHILDREN!, September 26, 2001
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

I must admit, I always steered clear of these Mega Blocks, because they weren't Legos. Legos are cool, these are "fake Legos," I'd think. BUT, after receiving some as a gift, I wonder what my kids used to play with before they had these. Our sons are ages three and a half, and sixteen months, and they both really enjoy building all sorts of things with these blocks. Even our younger son can successfully build things. They fit together very easily and securely, much better than the Duplo Legos. Plus, they have a larger variety of sizes, lending to more creative building. I am very pleased with these and would love more! We'll stockpile the Legos when the boys are older :)

These blocks are fantastic. They are a good size for little hands and go together easily. They clean up well after being in mouths, sandpits, baths, mud - you name it - they've been everywhere. You couldn't break one if you tried. Blocks are the greatest toy - it takes your child's imagination everywhere!

My son got this for a present when he was a little under 2. These were the precursor to his love for all Lego-type toys. He has since gone on to smaller and more complex "blocks" including tinker toys and Lincoln Logs - but he still plays with these whenever his 1 year old brother drags them out of the toy box. They are about as durable as anything comes and they really help hand-eye coordination.

Yes, the colors are nice, but after 1 day my husband admitted he had erred, and we have since purchased some Legos, which our daughter loves! Her favorite thing about the Mega Bloks was the large bag they come in, which she immediately put on her head. (yes, that's bad and I took it away from her).

My son got his first set of Mega Blocks when he was about 15 months. He loved to put them in his mouth and bang them together, and watch his father put them together. He has gradually gotten better at building with them himself, and now, at 21 months, he constructs huge towers (and knocks them down) or garages for his cars. He also *loves* the boy and girl that come with the set. He likes to talk about how the boy has buttons on his shirt but the girl doesn't, etc. He also points out all the colors of the blocks as he puts them together. No bleeping, annoying music, or batteries. Just my son and his imagination learning about construction, colors, geometry, hand-eye coordination, and math concepts. Every single morning one of the first things out of his mouth is "blocks!" and he runs out to play with them.

Some parents may not care about this, but another thing I *love* about this toy is that it's completely gender-neutral. No stupid stereotypes about what a kid should or shouldn't like. And his friends (boys and girls alike) like to play with his blocks with him.

I guess it would be nice if they were Duplo and connected with the Legos he'll undoubtedly move on to, but we're putting the price difference in his college fund :). This is easily the best value for the money or any toy for this age that I've seen.

My son absolutely loves mega blocks, from the time he turned 1 and received it as a gift. He is 17 months now and it has provided hours of entertainment! Just be careful of the zipper on the bag the blocks come in. I discovered the zipper pull in my son's mouth. I did call the company and they had a courier service pick up the bag so that they could examine it and are sending me a replacement bucket to put the blocks in.
