5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ABOUT CAREERS
I buy all of Field's career books. This one in particular is good if you're looking for a specific career to get into. It tells you everything you need to know and gives you options you probably wouldn't have thought of. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, I too, went to Field's web site as listed in the book. I had a couple of questions about getting the...

3.0 out of 5 stars A totally wrong approach to choosing a career
I think Field's list of "growth fields" is accurate, so the book is a valuable resource for this reason. On the other hand, if you're young and unsure what career to choose, the absolutely WORST thing you can do is sit down with this book and say "Well, I'm good at x, y, and z, and p and q are growth fields, so therefore I should be a ... " You may (as I did) end up in a job you do moderately well, but hate! You'll do far better to start by asking yourself, "What do I value the most?" and "What do I most enjoy doing?" -- and then ask yourself "How can I make this into a job?"
Books like this always remind me of the scene in "The Graduate" where a helpful elder takes Dustin Hoffman aside and tells him he has one word of advice for him: "Plastics!!" Barbara Sher's books are a great antidote.

I found the book very helpful --very informative about new career options. It gives all the specifics you need -- more concise and more helpful than other books of this type.

This is a great book! It has real jobs for real people. I recommend it if you're looking for a new career. I even went to the author's web site listed in the book and e-mailed a question and she answered right away. Get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the greatest book for finding a job, April 26, 2000
I was in between jobs and found this book. What I thought was great was that the author gave a full description of each job and then followed it with everything you needed to know if you wanted that job. Field also gave her website in case you wanted to ask personal career questions. If you want a job, check it out. It's a great book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Field missed some of the best careers!, March 3, 2000
By
As a math and computer teacher, I thought I would see information for my students, however, this book is old already. Under computers where are the MIS and CIS jobs? What about Web Master or computer and electrical engineering? Also, there is misinformation. One cannot now become a physical therapist with a BS, let alone a "certificate". Physical Therapy is now a 6 year program at all universities. One receives a Masters of Physical Therapy degree. I am very disappointed in Ms. Field's book.

2.0 out of 5 stars I agree with the reader from Santa Fe, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 100 Best Careers for the 21st Century (Paperback)
I definitely agree with the reader from Santa Fe. The idea that there's a preset template, or that there's a way to find a perfect fit for a job just by looking at yourself is pretty naive. I'd recommend looking within a certain industry and making a decision on a company by company basis. VaultReports, for example, is a good resource for doing that kind of thing because they publish books that don't tell you what to do, but what working in a specific place will be like. I'd also recommend any book that will give firm- or industry-specific info, without telling you what's best or worst.
